Newly diagnosed 21/08/2018. Been back cycling since 11 July 2018. I'm sick of weighing myself only to see I've not lost any weight at all (not gained any either!). Since being diagnosed I have made changes to diet and exercise. Taking on board what it means if I don't!

However, confused as surely with riding a bike doing nearly 10 miles a day or every second-day counts for something? Don't understand it.

Keeping a food log and cycle log. But not seeing any lbs come off!?????

I was impatient with my weight loss too! I started losing a steady 1/4 stone a week & then started going up a wee bit so, back to the same weight! My DSN told me that was because my blood sugars were coming down nicely & a lot of people put on weight because the cells in your body are being fueled properly again! She was actually pleased that I stayed the same weight & didn’t put on any with the BS going down! High blood sugars for a sustained amount of time is one of the unhealthiest ways of losing weight: body cells being starved of fuel because glucose is left in the blood!

You haven’t been diagnosed long & I think, with all your efforts, your blood sugars are going down? If you continue, at some point you’ll start losing weight again but, in a healthy way: body cells not being starved!

It is actually a good sign - I have reduced my carbs to try to get more weightloss, as I seem to have increased my insulin sensitivity significantly - but as I am still diabetic I will always tend to stash away carbs as fat.

You're probably on top of this stuff, but I found this a useful tool for looking at food/exercise mix and targets: https://www.niddk.nih.gov/bwp

As an ignorant muffin, I started by using the standard "2,000 cal for a male" food level you see eg on nutrition labels, subtracted a bit because I assumed that I like most people (apparently) might tend to under-count calories, and was a bit surprised that I seemed to be continuing lose weight.

Using this kind of tool it seems my maintenance level is probably more like 2,600+ cals.

Also surprised to see how much more effective for calories balance modest reductions in in-take are, versus moderate increases in exercise ...

It’s explained in the link. That’s why everyone is different. You can be addicted to food. Plus 18 miles walked is say 1800 calories burned. If you then eat a macdonalds there is your 1800 calories burned gone.
