Hi everyone it's miakat.
Has anyone any ideas why despite changing my diet completely to healthy eating. I haven't lost an ounce, just stayed the same.
If I was dieting like usual,I would have been in the biscuit tin by now. But as you have said in other posts it's for life this time.
So angry.

Hi Miakat,
Sorry to hear this, what is your goal, what does your diet typically consist of?

Hi Miakat,
Sorry to hear this, what is your goal, what does your diet typically consist of?
Hi Martin I want to lose weight until everything in my life improves .I have porridge every day for breakfast .fruit mid morning .salad sandwich with no fat of any kind,or homemade soup lots of veg and some chicken for lunch. Mid afternoon fruit. Main meal a jacket potato and beans and salad,no fat or dressing. Or oily fish and veg or chicken and veg and boiled potatoes. Little while after some nuts or Greek yogurt and berries. I am not feeling hungry as before or craving sweet stuff.

From the looks of it a healthy diet according to current "guidelines" but very carb heavy & it's excess carbs that turn into body fat rather than dietary fat

I see a couple of things worth trying:
  • Replace the porridge for a boiled egg (we are usually most carb intolerant in the morning)
  • Swap the fruit for perhaps nuts or celery (with cream cheese) or yogurt
  • There are different types of bread which are better on the BG, typically the high protein ones
  • Potatoes, particularly baked are not good for us, replace with extra veg

Agree with Martin it is a very carb heavy diet. Very similar to what I was doing when pre-diabetic although not overweight. Cut out the sandwiches, jacket potatoes and did not eat too much bread, maybe once a week. Cut down on the 7 lots of fresh fruit I was eating to a couple, and cut out the dried fruit I was eating like there no tomorrow. I did lose weight and now underweight. Weight loss was not intentional I just cut the carbs. Got out of pre-diabetes but, unfortunately, it has gone back up to that level. Not sure why as not really altered the diet. Oh well, back to testing and will battle on.

I agree with all the above. Though I’m T1 I was working out how much insulin I’d have to take with that diet, let alone the snacks, so it must be too carby. Martin’s suggestions are spot on. Lose the carbs, lose the weight.🙂

@miakat, not much else I can add, but you are an example of how low fat diets don't work & it's this type of diet that's heavily promoted. I managed to lose 4 stone in 12 months by going LCHF & I eat bacon, cream & butter, but no more than 50g carbs a day. Try an omelette for breakfast or plain Greek yoghurt with a few nuts & berries instead of the porridge. You may be able to re-introduce porridge once you've lost some weight, but check how your BG behaves with this. Lose the potatoes & replace with more veg (preferably green ones) & try Burgen soya & linseed bread which is much lower in carbs than white or wholemeal bread.

Yep, agree with the others. Pre diagnosis I was doing slimming world but had hit a wall with no weight loss, since diagnosed I cut out almost all carbs, only bread I have is Burgen seeded and then only two slices a day, also walking between 30 - 45 mins at least 5 times a week and I have dropped a jean size (4 weeks in).
Try what the others have said and I’m sure you will see a difference.
Good luck!
