Hi,
My nana said she’s checked her blood levels and she’s at 14.1
She was type 2 but has recently been diagnosed as type 1 and was told she would need to take insulin injections. The doctors have not prescribed her with any insulin and she no longer has any tablets left from her previous prescription.
She’s suffering from confusion, dizziness, incontinence and is shaky on her feet.
She is struggling to get a doctors appointment and I’m getting really concerned.
Do we need to call 999? Should she be going to hospital?

get onto 999, type 1 needs the insulin

When you say she’s been diagnosed as type 1, has this been diagnosed by a dr or are you assuming from being advised she needs to move onto insulin?

Given the other symptoms I would call 111 for advice

Sorry to hear there has been a mixup with your Nana’s prescriptions. Can you book a phone appointment with her GP surgery and maybe chase up the prescription or reorder the other medications?

14.1 is high, and it will get uncomfortable if her blood glucose continues to rise.

The symptoms you describe aren’t the ones that would be worrying in the presence of high BG though. If anything they would be more commonly associated with low blood glucose.

Hope you can get to the bottom of things, and get her some help. Well done for looking out for her 🙂

All GPS should still have emergency consultations. I’d phone and stress your concerns and that you want to speak to someone today. If a GP isn’t free then they should have a nurse who could talk to you/her.

Hi @AlexandraDWall . Going by your grandmothers symptoms, I think you need to phone 999 for an ambulance rather than calling for a Gp.
If she was mis diagnosed as having T2 (which often happens due to a persons age as some medics don’t realise that T1 occurs in adults too. )
T1 can deteriorate very very quickly into life threatening condition , so please don’t hesitate to phone 999.
