Has anyone else experienced a complete loss of appetite? My sugars are fine for me, 7.5 last night & 6.4 this morning, and yet I haven't eaten anything since Friday evening. I know I should want food but I cannot muster any interest whatsoever. I've tried thinking of all my favourites but there is no desire at all.

I sometimes don't want food at all. I try to take meals with other people, especially my family. We have a four year old we are trying to encourage to eat, and it is important for him to see others eating.

Try not to nibble too much and try to eat mindfully. It's something I do and if I am engrosed in whatever else I am doing before I know it a whole box of chocolates or a whole pack of biscuits is gone.

Also try new foods or recipes to make eating more interesting. I went through a stage where I was trying something new every couple of days.

Are you on metformin? That affects your appetitite. In the begining my appetitite was very affected, but I HAD to eat something or suffer from the side effects and become very aquainted with the loo.

Hope it all works out for you and you are eating soon.

I'm on Novorapid and Levemir. I don't snack during the day. My usual regime is that I eat one meal a day in the evening.

Not especially, although sometimes I just can't be bothered to eat - it's too much hassle testing & injecting for too little return. Even when I do want to eat I'll only have a maximum of 2 meals in a day, one of which would be dinner.

You sound rather like my father in law, who was fit and healthy on a minimal diet. No one and nothing could persuade him to eat and he was very fit and healthy. He lived mainly on tea and was well past 80 when he passed on.

One of the arguments hubby and I have is I like regular meals and get very grumpy if I don't eat on a regular basis. That was pre diabetes diagnosis. Now my retort if he says anything is you don't want me to be ill do you? Emotional blackmail I know, but it seems to work.

We are all different. Life would be rather dull if we were all athe same and our conversation here could not happen either...

Funny enough for the last two mornings I've had to force breakfast down my throat. I daren't drive if I don't eat so eat and try not to gag. Eating later at night seems bad for me as my food seems to lie much heavier on my stomach.

To be fair, I'm hungry in the day and stave it off by eating fruit and low GI stuff as much as possible.

Do you ever have feelings of hunger or wanting to eat through the day?

I can't eat breakfast because my morning sugars are so high, and when I started metformin I had NO appetite for a few weeks. Then it came back with a vengeance :D

I don't always eat breakfast, but try to have something, an apple or slice of bread or something light to take my pills with.

I make up for lack of appetite early by eating a proper breakfast around 9am when I have my first break at work. Then I eat through the day. I keep fruit near me as it is better than chocolate, and staves things off till dinner in the evening.
