night time lows and annoying libre!

I have not got back to my driving, had a stroke few years ago and after that my driving has suffered through anxiety. What do you set yours to while driving, really want to get back to it
I am in a slightly different position now because I am using a pump and closed loop so it is checking my levels in the background. My warning level is set at 5
However when I want to drive I follow this procedure
- Check levels 1 hour before I need to set off
- Check levels and arrows before I set off. I want 5 or above and no downward arrow.
- Eat a snack of slow release carbs before I set off and bolus for that
- I have my jelly babies open next to me.
- If in any doubt I stop and check.
- On a longer journey I stop every hour to check
This may seem like a bit of over kill. It after one hypo when driving it took me some time to recover my confidence. I started with just local short journeys and I kept clear of motorways for a while, but I am now happy using them again.

When I had had a big break from driving after our car was ‘rearranged’ for us in an accident it took me a while to get back in a car. I had a couple of driving lessons and then went out each day with my OH to start with on very short journeys.

If you want to drive again take small safe steps and build your confidence but by bit.

I’m doing sort runs round our town and to work fine with that. Took run to cemetery yesterday, which is not that far out off town, took my sister in law with me. Was a bit wobbly but fine on the return, my sister in law said nowt wrong with your driving, I said I know it’s all in my head. Avoid motorways as was hit by a lorry, thank you for the great tips

It sounds like you are tackling things that are worrying you and using some useful strategies to overcome fears. Well done.
