As a

diabetes, I am very concerned that when NHS Diabetes is dissolved on 31st March 2013, its gathered wisdom will go to waste. NHS Diabetes has achieved a great deal in recent years to champion diabetes services and tackle variations in care across the country. In 2012, it was reported that ?9.8 billion of the NHS budget was spent on treating diabetes, and 80% of that was spent on avoidable complications. This issue cannot be resolved without focussed national leadership, and it would take some years to restore the level of expertise which is about to be lost.

I understand there is still a brief opportunity to prevent the expertise gained by the staff and the organisation from being discarded, and I would urge you to do whatever you can to make sure the needs of people with

Type 2
diabetes continue to be addressed by a focussed national leadership.

I would have thought that at this late stage (like 2 weeks to go) you should write to Julian Hartley (MD NHS Improving Quality). Not having even heard of NHS Diabetes and having read the strategic intent for NHS Improving Quality I do not see that your proposed action will do any good, sorry Alan.
