Hello everyone maybe jumping the gun here my wife had blood test showed sugar level up doctor ringing back in a week to chat about it so hopefully not too bad but if not be nice to chat to someone who has knowledge about this subject got a couple of cookbooks to start off with today my dad had diabetes held his in check with diet hope wife the same outcome any advice would be welcome thanks

Welcome to the forum @JeffRandall.

Did they suggest how high her sugar levels have increased, or will that be discussed next week? It might be premature to think in 'diabetes mode' until the doctor confirms diagnosis, but it wouldn't hurt to assess your lifestyle and see if there's anything you can improve on in the meantime: diet, exercise, sleep, alcohol consumption etc. No need to overhaul everything all at once of course!

There are plenty of recipes on the Diabetes UK website to give you some healthy food ideas. Also feel free to get involved with the Food/carb queries + recipes section of this forum.

Good on your for supporting your wife with this and I hope everything turns out okay next week. 🙂

Hi JeffRandall, welcome to the forum.

It's great to gather information just in case as a lot of the info is useful for diabetics and non diabetics alike. As you rightly pointed out, diet can make all the difference so feel free to have a look around the site for inspiration.

Hopefully the call back will provide you both with greater insight but in the meantime, if there's anything we can help with, do let us know and we'll do our best to assist.

Welcome to the forum @JeffRandall

Do you know if it was an HbA1c check (an indicator of general glucose levels in the blood over the previous 3 months or so)? And what the level was?

Hope all is well, the main thing is not to become panicked easier said than done as I know too well. However as above said there are loads of areas on here to look at the learning curve is very clear to look at and make one think. It never does any harm and life is a journey you may discover many really nice recipes and a better way of eating. I have discovered some. I do get my really black hole days where I despair but they have been up to now here extremely supportive and have got me through. I can't thank this website forum enough as if not its a huge world out there. You are not alone anymore there is great camaraderie here and if you read and experiment with what you find. I am now getting to more or less what is going on with me. Not out of the woods but the journey is long and loads to discover. All the best
