Hi
I went for routine blood tests for another issue and ended up being told over the phone that I had T2DM no advice no are you okay ?? Just the DN will see you soon
I feel really overwhelmed as I didn’t expect this I have no idea what my levels are and as a medical professional I am flabbergasted that they told me over the phone anyway I just need some advice on carb counting and how to make it easy
Many Thanks

What you need first is your blood levels this will determine and what you need to do I would ring them and find out what they are

Hi @T21h I agree with the above that it is best to know your HbA1C result, but no matter what it is I would always advise getting a Blood Glucose meter which has relatively cheap test strips (they are meter brand specific) and testing to see the effect of your meals and snacks.
2 decent meters are the SD Gluco Navii or the Spirit Tee2+ ( I have the latter).
Test before 1st bite of a meal and then 2hrs after 1st bite. Aim to keep the 2hr rise between pre and post - meal to no more than 2.0 mmol.
If it is more than that, try to take action to avoid such spikes in future (cutting the carbohydrates or replacing (some of) them with extra protein or traditional fats.
Don't fear traditional fats- their artery clogging reputation is false as recent studies show. On the contrary so-called vegetable (actually highly processed seed oil) fats easily turn into trans fats and cause serious harm.

Thanks for the replies
I’m just feeling really overwhelmed and sad is this normal ????

Hi, Yes totally normal! I always knew it was coming, but when it did I was still so shocked. At least you got a phone call, mine was text 🙂 Had to hide it from family for a few days until I got my mind around it. You will be fine, its not the end of the world. You've got this. Good luck!

I too felt overwhelmed, but that changed as soon as I discovered the evidence for remission via a Low Carb 'way of eating'.
Then I was just angry that my doctor, doctors all over the world, and even governments all over the world were promoting ways of eating that practically guaranteed to create as much Type2 diabetes as possible! I knew that because I had been following UK gov 'Eatwell', low fat and '5 a day' for a decade as it increased my weight and eventually made me T2D.

Welcome! Yes, as many have said before these are normal feelings but they will pass. There are loads of different suggestions on here. No 'one size fits all' so you need to work out what suits you and take appropriate action which hopefully will help sort it out. Good luck!

I was contacted and told it was just a routine follow up appointment, and only 10 days later was I told I was a really bad diabetic.
What do they teach these GPs eh?
I got a prescription for tablets, no advice about diet - but I think he realised he'd made a faux pas right from the start.
