Relationship to Diabetes
Type 2
I was told on monday that I have type 2 diabetes due to prolonged use of prescribed steroids for chronic brittle asthma. My husband is also type 2 diabetic but as I have major digestive problems and am gluten plus lactose intolerant I am worried about being able to cook for my family without having to do seperete meals . I have a son of 23 at home who is on a high protein diet for a heart condition . Any body got any suggestions please .
it is just another thing to cope with but I will keep going, keep busy and keep cheerful

Well for diabetes the only thing you and your husband need to limit in your diets - are carbohydrates of any description. Protein and fat are both OK, but obviously - the whole of your life from cradle to grave - you should always eat absolutely everything in moderation and nothing in excess anyway - whether you have a health condition of not!

Coeliac disease only means you have you give up gluten - GF bread is available, but I have no idea whether it's still full of carb or not. Easier to pack it up completely I should think?

You don't need flour to make cake, nor sugar and there are lots of cheats also available for other things - recipes all over the place for them if you look!

You can pack in sugar no prob, use artificial sweeteners for anything you make that needs sweetening. Granulated sweetener is NOT carb free - in fact weight for weight it isn't very much less than sugar - BUT! you need far less of it - being at least 3x as sweet as sugar.

It's not hard, honestly.

Welcome. I'm a steroid dependant brittle asthmatic. There not sure if my diabetes is steroid induced or type1. Are you on insulin or tablets?

If your steroid dose changes regularly it may be easier to be on insulin as you can adjust it easier.

I don't have a lot of advice on diet. The steroids make me hungry I know that much.
