Hello,
I’m so glad I found this Forum, it’s been roughly a month since my diagnosis.
My BG readings for the first couple of weeks were from too high to read down to around 15
Today they have been 9.6 and 7.9 so I see a glimmer of hope that I’m doing this lifestyle change correctly!
Does anyone else have a tummy that is so bloated it looks like birth is imminent?
I guess time, exercise and healthy eating will get me back in shape. It’s just awful feeling pregnant at my age lol

Welcome @KimmyPotter 🙂 It sounds like you’re doing really well. Ask anything you want here - nothing is ‘silly’ or too trivial to ask🙂

I noticed yesterday after walking in the heat my bg was over 20, is that something that happens when you’re overheated?

Welcome to the forum, can I ask if you have been put on any medication and have you made an dietary changes as some people do find that some medications can give them stomach issues.
You may find this link helpful in modifying your diet. https://lowcarbfreshwell.co.uk. It is a low carb approach with many find successful though other try low calorie or shakes based regimes but whatever you chose has to be enjoyable and sustainable.

And welcome from me too @KimmyPotter - I was only diagnosed just over three months ago and have found the forum and the advice I've received invaluable - Enjoy.

Bloating can be attributed sometimes to the change of diet. Maybe the extra protein or fibre. For me it was nuts, something I never really ate before until my diagnosis. I don’t eat them anymore, bloat gone. I recently had a microbiome study done because of my tummy troubles and it turns out I don’t have the particular bacteria that digests nuts. I’ve started drinking goats milk kefir with a prebiotic (not probiotic). Over time this can restore the gut bacteria to optimal levels. I have noticed a big difference.

I was put on Metformin and Gliclazide, I had an upset stomach for the first few days but now I’m fine. I have cut sugar and significantly decreased my carb intake

Welcome to the forum @KimmyPotter

Sounds like you are off to a great start!

Heat is generally considered to improve insulin sensitivity, because of the increased blood flow, so many people with diabetes find their levels drop in warmer weather. But diabetes is fickle and fiercely individual - so this may not be the case for you!

Sounds like the combination of meds and menu changes are having a positive effect on your levels. Take things steady, and keep looking for those patterns, and you’ll get a feel for your particular diabetes’ foibles and oddities.

Keep going! And keep asking questions as they come up 🙂

I go for a walk/run at lunchtime in this weather and my BG drops dramatically, sometimes below 4. However, exercise can cause it to rise as when you finish the body tries to replenish the glucose stored in muscles - although this is normally with high intensity exercise. If mine goes very low it usually rises back to between 5 and 6 around 15-30 minutes later.

When I used Libre sensors I sometimes saw a rise when I started exercise (Maybe due to a rush of adrenaline?), but it generally always dropped down afterwards.

Perhaps as a T2 you are seeing these rises because the body can't deal with the glucose created due to the exercise? There are a lot of things that change BG levels during the day, it never stays still, but the metabolism is a closed loop system designed to keep it at a certain level.

I’ve not noticed any side effects from the heat, although maybe dehydration can cause an issue?

Looks like you are doing well, though with the reductions so far and the diet!
