My husband is newly diagnosed type2 I think he has misinterpreted the dietary advice by our practise nurse. He won't eat any fruit or veg it bread, rice or pasta ( even whole meal) he's living off chicken and nuts. I feel it's not healthy or sustainable I understand he wants to lose weight and reverse diabetes but I'm worried

It is possible to go extremely low carb and remain healthy, but it's not really necessary if it makes eating difficult or a chore, or unsustainable as a diet. There's absolutely nothing wrong with most vegetables, it's only really certain things like potatoes and parsnips that contain significant amounts of carbs. Fruit like berries are also relatively low carb, and if eaten as part of a meal then this can reduce their impact on blood sugar levels. If he's eating an entirely protein-based diet then he will be missing out on many vital nutrients, vitamins and fibre and an excess of protein in the diet can be damaging to the kidneys.

I'd recommend looking at the GL Diet - this describes how to select food that will have a slow and steady impact on blood sugar levels, but will also supply all the necessary nutrients our bodies need. The GL Diet for Dummies is a good introduction 🙂

I made the mistake when first diagnosed of been so strict with what I ate, I could not maintain it long term.Though I did not cut out fruit and vegetables.
I have found with trail and error that it is not always what I eat, it can be how much that can make a difference.
