Hi guys, got to say what a confusing potential nightmare this condition is. Hoping to find real world guidance in managing this problem

Part 1. Martin, as a relaxed new type 2 (i never get very excited about anything) i am completely bemused by your percentages jumble. What is it all about?
Part 2. My problem that i actually am beginning to get concernef about is my love for chocolate. I KNOW it will do me no good but i still find myself buying and eating Cadbury fruit and nut etc. I wonder if hypnosis is my next step.........

Another question from this newby. My doc has recommended a day course called DESMOND. Stands for diabetic education something or other. Is this nationwide? More to the point is it useful?

85% and above dark chocolateis fine, seriously. I eat it basically daily, developed quite a taste for it.
Aldi sell a brand Moser Roth with is very nice pluse there are other brands.
Lindt, Montezuma (I have just ordered 15 bars of this stuff for delivery in the UK), Heidi 85%, Cachet.
Just watch the carb content.
I used to eat nothing but milk chocolate and wouldn't consider dark but that has all changed.
I love my new lifestyle.
 
Desmond is a nationwide course. It gives a basic overview of Type 2 diabetes and can get useful if you've just been diagnosed. If nothing else it's good to meet other people in the same boat and compare notes

Basic Stats for HbA1c..... I live in the States & our A1c is expressed as a percentage, as this board is predominantly UK based I have done the conversion

I am surprised by this "problem" I am not really a chocolate lover and am annoyed that chocolate is one of the things on the "good" list. Why can't it be pineapple, or grapes, or bananas, or sultanas, or even apples. It's not fair!!!
 
In a year's time - with any luck you will be puzzled by your concern.
Diabetes is all about carbohydrate and your inability to cope with the modern diet.
Basically you can eat any meat fish or shellfish, eggs, most cheese, and fruit and veges low in carbs - and high cocoa chocolate.
You can have coffee with cream and put cream on the small serving of berries - or Greek yoghurt, though most berries are low carb blueberries are not - they are all grown from the US variety and are far sweeter than strawberries or raspberries.
That is it, basically - so you can make yourself a chop or stew or roast a joint, cook up some fish or shellfish and then eat it with mushrooms, sweet peppers courgette cauliflower or any low carb veges or any sort of salad - have berries and cream after - maybe with sugar free jelly or a gelatine concoction - sugar free jelly can be too sweet so adding a little low carb fruit squash to gelatine is a good alternative.
My numbers dropped to normal very quickly and have stayed low.
