Hi been pre diabetic for about 2 years. Latest reading was 70 and 56 prior to this so now confirmed I have type 2 diabetes.

Starting on Metformin, slowly increasing over the next 4 weeks. Likely to need statins to lower cholesterol but waiting for 3 month review but also been told liver function isn’t what it should be - is that likely linked to the diabetes ?

Feel like I have lots of learning to do regarding my eating in order to manage the diabetes better and lose weight. Any food and recipes ideas welcome - particularly breakfast and lunches.

I suggest you look at the Forum Food/carb queries and recipes for ideas.

Welcome to the forum. Lots to glean from posts here about managing your condition. Many have managed to pull back on their blood glucose levels by making some lifestyle changes. Diet being an important factor, not just what you eat but portion control as well.
Many find a low carbohydrate approach successful in reducing blood glucose and losing weight if needed. This link has good information, some dos and don'ts as well as some menu plans with recipes to suit various tastes. https://lowcarbfreshwell.com/
Low carb is suggested as being no more than 130g carbs not just sugar per day, it is not NO carbs.
There are other ways that people try and find works for them, low calorie, shakes based regimes to give a kick start but whatever you choose has to be enjoyable otherwise it will not be sustainable which it need to be as it has to become a new way of eating for life not a quick fix.

Hi @ClouP
A short note. Yes, liver function and diabetes are inextricably linked. To save repeating myself here is a link to a post I wrote earlier today. I suggest you have a look at this video of a talk Professor Roy Taylor gave last year abour achieving T2D remission and restoring normal function of the liver and pancreas. His takeaway message was aim to lose 15 kg or more by any sustainable weight loss diet you choose. Examples: Dr Kim Andrews at Freshwell as above, Dr David Unwin, Zoe Harcombe. FWIW I am following the principles of the Harcombe diet for weight maintenance - so far so good.

Information for discussion with your GP. Be warned, not all GPs and DNs are aware of the ground breaking research at Newcastle University, 10-15 years ago.

Hope this helps a bit.
