Newly Diagnosed Type 2 testing question

Thanks Drummer, I'm doing the same but keeping it going is really really hard. Thanks for the positive words it means a lot. Its a bit of a lonely place here with T2. ! I finished my cgm so now I'm going to get a cheap meter and I'm beginning to be able to feel when the sugar goes high. I was at a pub yesterday and a doctor friend said living without grains is probably OK.
I switched to a tee 2 + meter from spirit healthcare. I signed up on the website and then was asked to confirm my diabetes by email, then I could order free of VAT. I bought the meter and some lancets and enough strips to get through the first few months. I have changed the batteries, it is 7 years now, but it seems to be still going strong and has been accurate. I don't know why knowing my blood glucose level would make me anxious, as some type 2s have been told. If anything seeing my numbers declining resulted in a distinctly smug expression and an 'A-haa I showed 'em' attitude.
I used to work in the food industry and was surprised to find out that many food mixes they made at the factory had to be 'fortified' by law as they are so lacking in essential substances. Grains are a fairly recent introduction into our diet - I think that their first use was to make beer rather than bread.

ps I also don't have good memory so writing down helps me
I've just ordered the same thx. Yes I used to work in medical statistics. Knowledge defiantly for me. Then I can see if I'm feeling off due to high sugar. I'm guessing monitoring for about 12 months or so should hive me a decent picture. The CGMs are nice but I don't play the lottery and they are pricy

Initially I was testing fairly regularly to check out meals but once I had established a good repertoire of safe meals then I would only test something new or If I was suspicious about having certain combinations of foods.
I tend not to bother with morning readings anymore as they are usually pretty much the same and slightly higher than other times of the day.
I still have a nearly full box of lancets from 2015 as I reuse them many many times.

Thanks leadinglights ... I've had a few days off 'diabetes watch' and you are right ... its about knowing what I can and can't do food wise. It seems so exhausting now but I'm sure in a few years it will seem normal. I guess it's also about daily habits and not starting something that is unrealistic. I have good adherence with food, but exercise is so tiring !!!

Hee hee! It's a very strange thing indeed though - the effects of this exercise business. It turns out that if you keep doing it, however little it may initially be, it truly does gradually become less tiring ......

BUT - and there's always a but - you do actually have to start ! .........

How annoying is that? 😉 🙂

Time in Range is a very useful measure. Try to aim at 70% plus.
Eating, check out the Glucose Goddess - she has tips that really work. For example, when eating a meal, eat the veg/salad first, then the protein, and lastly the carbs. This helps to flatten the spikes a little

Thanks that's helpful. Am I right that I need to use my pc to see the detailed cgm results for time in range - can I get it on my phone??

I always thought time in range was more relevant for Type 1 and those on insulin as a better indicator of good management than for others.

If you go to the app home page there is a Time in range, click on it, it then gives 7, 14, 30, or 90 day options to veiw.
