I’ve seen them for £15 for 50 on ebay, slightly more on Amazon, but I’ve only bought them from Boots where they are considerably dearer. I tend to buy them when they are on offer, either a reduced price, or 3 for 2. Plus of course you get points on your Boots card. I don’t use them that often, so 50 lasts me a long time.

I fully support regular testing for T2's, but am going to put one point forward that may come across as pro Dr. Immediatley after disagnosis, we can be all over the place with reading, emotion, denial etc etc.
Agreed, I had a tough time with my readings in the first 6 months, however I didn't have a support group such as this forum to help me understand what was going on....

Hi everyone, I ordered the codefree hopefully it will arrive by Saturday.

Already making alterations to my diet.
Next is to see how sport people monitor and manage .
I do Road and mtbing..windsurfing in summer and rock climbing. So need to make sure I manage it correctly.
The links and comments you have posted are really excellent.
Thank you 🙂

Hello Tracy and welcome to the forum. Not good about being diagnosed with T2 but fortunately there is a lot that we can do to control it. I agree with what others have said. I have been on a low carb diet for about five years now. At first I tested quite a lot but now only on about two days in the week. I am now at the non-diabetic range, but really would not be there without testing and the wonderful support of this forum. My doctor was not at all happy that I refused medication and of course that is a decision for each of us to make for ourselves. If you want to try a vegetarian diet that would be up to you. You will know that you need to keep an eye on portion size because even protein can affect BG if eaten in large quantities. Good luck with the meter. Sides of the fingers are best and rotate the ones that you use. Warming your hands and holding them down at you sides for a few seconds before the test helps. A dentist friend also told me to exhale while doing the test apparently this stops one tensing up and making it more painful. Hope you continue to improve 🙂

I am happy to try veggie meals but not every day! Don’t think that is for me. I already do 1-2 days meat free a week.
I read the painless pricks by Alan s very helpful. As I rock climb the sides of fingers is better for me than pads.
I have been thinking on what may have triggered the T2. I have a bum on chair job where I do not move for 8- 9 hrs, Unless for a wee. Before diagnosis I was working my lunch break due to work load. Plus had 2 major ops last year that had me immobile for 5 months.
I do mtb and road cycling but not this time of year if raining and blowing a hoolie, I windsurf in summer and rock climb at least once a week. I did pole fitness but had to give it up due to operations.
I try and cycle into work weather permitting and since diagnosis I have gone for a stomp on my lunch breaks weather permitting . Realised the not moving at work will not help me manage T2 and like most employees I’m replaceable if they break me, not worth damaging myself because they won’t employee more people..

I don't find work too much different than before, the only thing is that I make sure that I have good time for my breakfast and my lunch because regular meals really suit me. I am trying to get out for a quick walk at lunchtime, if only because it burns a bit extra BG before I eat. Not too much today though, today was positively arctic outside!
