Type 2
Hello,

I was diagnosed last week by my doctor over the phone and have to wait 3 weeks before I can see the diabetic nurse and ask all the questions.

I’ve been given meds but no real instructions other when to take them and I have no ideas what the rules are now.

Also I can’t work out how this effects when I’m supposed to get the vaccine, I’m only 32 so not been called yet but know now I’m in group 6 so don’t know if I should just book it or continue to wait.

It’s all just a bit scary at the moment and my GP is just to busy to give me any information.

Sorry to rant I just don’t know what to do and want to make sure I’m going to right things as soon as I can.

Hi Martin,

Thank you, it’s just a mind field.

Its metformin, it starts at once a day, then next week twice a day and three times a day a week after that. Hasn’t been to bad so far.

It was 95 but she didn’t really explain what that meant.

I didn’t knowly have any symptoms as she just did along with annual thyroid check I have. But it does run in my family.

Any advice would be great.
X

Hello and welcome to the forum. 🙂

Hi @Harri828 Welcome to the forum. It sure does come as a shock doesn’t it . I had no symptoms either .
Martin has summed it up well so I won’t repeat it.

We are fine with protein in all it’s forms and this will probably supprise you , unless you have a condition that requires it ie cardio or vascular problems then a normal amount of good fats are fine , fats keep us feeling fuller for longer and imo the taste and texture of things that are not low fat is much better, but that’s just my opinion .

Welcome to the forum @Harri828

Sorry to hear about your diagnosis, but glad that you have found the forum.
you have already had comprehensive from Martin, so I will just encourage you to read around the forum and come back with any questions that arise. Nothing is considered silly on here. Just ask.

Welcome to the forum @Harri828

You’ve had a lot of hints and tips already, but keep asking away with any questions you have. Seems like you’ve been left a bit in the lurch by an overstretched GP surgery, but there is loads of support here, and lots of information in the Learning Zone, and on the main Diabetes UK site.

As regards your vaccination, I’m not sure what increase in risk there would be for someone newly diagnosed, but as you say, your diabetes diagnosis now puts you in Group 6, so I don’t think there’s any reason not to try to book yourself a vaccination slot if you would like to. Alternatively, you could just wait for one to arrive in the fullness of time.
