Well, never for the life of me did i ever expect to be writing in here, my diagnosis was a shock to say the least!
But here I am, looking for a buddy, who, like me needs to shed a few lbs, like, 80 of the lil buggers!
Ive been attending a SW class for the last 2 weeks, lost 6lb so far. However, I have been put on Gliclazide today, 40mg dose. Reading some other threads about weight gain while on the tablets is filling me with dread, I mean, Id rather gain by eating a white bread cheese and onion sandwich daily, but, I am watching the carbs like a woman possessed but still having 'good carbs'.
Sooooo, is there anyone out there doing SW, who needs to lose about 6 stone and wants to be my buddy, swap recipes, be supportive, tell me to NOT give in when Im craving white bread sandwich and packet of crisps etc? Anyone?
Please be nice, this is my first post

Welcome to the club no one wants to join @Tanith Watts, is that your first drug you been on for diabetes treatment, have you been unable to tolerate Metformin. Glicazide is going to make your weight loss more difficult.
If you give a little more info about your diagnosis, i.e. when you were diagnosed, your initial HbA1c, etc then members here will be able to give you some more informed advice but in the meantime hope you find a diet buddy and please ask as I'm sure the members here will help you as they did me.

Hi @Martin9
Thank you for replying. Glicazide is my first drug. My DN would not prescribe Metformin as I had protein in my sample so have to redo in 3 weeks.
I was diagnosed 2 weeks ago. My initial HbA1c was 56, second one was 61.

That explains her not wanting to prescribe Metformin, but as I said before it's going to make your weight loss more difficult, but losing weight is part of helping yourself deal with Type 2 diabetes.
There are plenty of dietary tips on the recipe sections here and please ask away if you have questions...

As a type two, carbs are not my friend, I managed to get back to normal levels on a maximum of 50 gm of carbs a day, and I have lost 46 lb eating low carb but I am now dropping lower to get rid of some body fat.
Gliclazide pressures your pancreas to produce more insulin, so your DN thinks that you must be low, rather than overproducing - so you could find yourself having hypos if you avoid carbs, and of course it will make it difficult to lose weight - but your Hba1c is not dreadfully high.
Good luck with the slimming world

I'd be happy to message on here

Hi Tanith

I am a current member of SW and 100% willing to message on here to help provide motivational advice and just have someone to talk too regarding diabetes. So far I have managed to lose just shy of 2st but the rest is clinging on with great will power. Anyway, i have some good recipes I use and always willing to share ideas and be supportive.

I am over in Oxfordshire but as I said, we can speak on here and offer advice, you're not alone on this journey.
