I just wanted to share some positivity: Within 1 week of T1 diagnosis (previously misdiagnosed T2) I took my pre lunch BG test and injected bolus insulin whilst sitting on a bench by a footpath in a country park. Then ate my pre-carb-calculated packed lunch. I felt disproportionately pleased with myself . However as the whole idea was to see how discrete and efficient I could be I felt I couldn't hi 5 strangers and do cartwheels . Dose and carb units still work in progress but feeling grateful for this small victory.

Nice one!
It took me quite a while to do this outdoors after diagnosis.
My first time was when I did it in a carpark at Asda in my car and then had a strawberry and white choc muffin. Best thing I've ever tasted.
Recently, I moved onto trying things where I didn't know the carb content.
That was a KFC where I binged out a bit (I don't do this very often) and I just estimated what I thought was a reasonable bolus figure and kept an eye on my bloods over the next few hours. That was great!

Because of covid, I've not had the chance to do anything in public yet.

Well done you, that’s a big step you have made! I think you do get used to the idea if testing and injecting in “public” and of course it’s possible to be discreet with it. I remember once in a restaurant in France a chap got out his pen and injected. I wouldn’t have seen it had I not been sitting one table down on the same banquette seating. Nor did he see me when I did it, as he was deep in conversation with his companion. On the other hand, early in after diagnosis I was embarrassed to be caught injecting in a ladies toilet where I was trying to hide. I never retreated to the toilet again. Just be casual about it and if anyone says anything just explain.

Never hidden testing or Giving a jab, proud of who I am and what I deal with and in the end it’s Nobodys Business

Well done @Jennyninja, I vowed from DX I wouldn`t inject in the loo ever and quite happily
inject anywhere, never been asked what are you doing for the amount of time it takes whose
bothered. Stick buy your guns and principles and remember its your Diabetes and no one else.
Take care stay safe.

Well done @Jennyninja

It will make things much easier for you long term if you can ,aintain that confident and pragmatic approach to your diabetes management. I’ve always been happy to just get on with it wherever I am, and have thankfully never had a negative experience.

Insulin pens are so discreet and even if in a busy restaurant you can usually choose your seat carefully to be able to dose below the table, which means people would really have to be staring in order to clock what you are doing. 🙂
