New Member
Relationship to Diabetes
Type 2
Hi there

My name is Pamela and after a couple of years of always being borderline Type 2, the unfortunate thing happened a couple of weeks ago and was now Actually diagnosed TYPE 2. Despite my best efforts to avoid this I just really looking for the help and support of others. As i have no family to help and very few understanding friends. I am really hoping to make a serious change for the better and look forward to joining in this community. Thanks

This is a good place to come to learn and find support. I have learnt so much from everyone here. Only been a member for around 6/7 weeks but learnt so much from here. Best of luck.

Welcome to the forum Pamela from a fellow T2.

Hi @Pamela James welcome to the forum I was in your position only 4 weeks ago. I’ve learnt so much about my diabetes, diet, medication and just living day to day. The people on here are very knowledgeable and extremely helpful and supportive. Any and all questions you have just ask someone will try and answer them for you. If you are having a good day or bad and want to let someone know or just a chat you are in the right place.

Welcome Pamela this is a great support with lovely people who tell it like it is ---truthfully......ask any questions or simply just get stuff off your chest 😉

Hi Pamela there is no blame or shame in a diagnosis of diabetes...whether type 1 or 2...fortunately for many of us T 2's it is a perfectly manageable condition with a few life style adjustments...if you could tell us a little more about yourself it would help members here offer some advice or make the right suggestions to help you with managing your diabetes...are you taking any medication...have you an idea of what your blood glucose levels are...if you'd prefer not to answer those questions now...that's understandable...you can make a very effective change with a little work...if you have any specific questions post them here...I'm sure one of the many experienced T2's would be able to help...give you the benefit of their experience...good luck...please keep us updated.

Welcome to the forum @Pamela James

Sorry to hear about your diagnosis, but glad you found the forum so soon. Lots of friendly helpful people here who instinctively ‘get it’ and can share their experiences, hints and tips.

Feel free to ask any questions you have. Nothing will be regarded as too obvious.

You might also find some of the information in the ‘Useful links’ thread helpful (it’s at the top of the Newbies board), particularly Maggie Davey’s letter and Alan S’s Test Review Adjust.

Many T2 members here also highly recommend Gretchen Becker’s book ‘Type 2 Diabetes: the first year’ which gives a clear and easy to read overview of diabetes and how it can be managed.

Welcome, Pamela!

There will be lots of people and advice to help you, but also you could join Diabetes UK (shortened to DUK on this forum) .
DUK have a good introductory & advice pack for newly diagnosed Type 2, plus a helpline and a magazine

Thank you all for such a warm welcome, Much appreciated. A lot of good tips and advise . Honestly feeling overwhelmed at the moment by the changes I have to make. I nearly had a meltdown this morning in the supermarket over choosing what to have for breakfast to take to work.... Looking forward to it getting easier.

Welcome Pamela. 🙂

Hi Pamela, welcome aboard 😉 I am sure you will get loads of help and support here, I certainly did and thanks to that I am now eating healthier and better than I ever have. I still go out to lunch regularly without much difficulty and am actually losing weight for the first time in years :D I’m on metformin 2 x 500mg morning and evening and have learned how to check my bg levels to see what foods I tolerate and what I react badly to so need to avoid. Do ask anything you are curious about, no such thing as a stupid question o_O
