Hello, my names mark, how's everyone
Welcome to the forum Mark. Pls ask away ! Don't be shy & what meds are you on ?
Hi Ralph, I'm really new , just lastFriday lolHi Mark and welcome from a fellow T2 who's 19 months in.
Hi Mark, it's quite normal to be scared, there is a lot of uncertainty at first (well all the time) & a lot, and I mean a lot of information to take in.... First thing to do is take a deep breath & decide that you will control this disease & not have it control you...I'm petrified
A couple of things to start you out.....
We are generally of the consensus that we need to know as much information as we can to manage our disease, so go & get yourself a test meter, the SD Codefree from Amazon is generally recommended as consumables are cheap.... With the test meter you will be able to determine what foods spike your BG & what don't (so much), we can talk about interpreting testing when you get your meter. The medical community are generally against us humble T2's from testing as for some reason not being on anti-diabetics or insulin makes us dumb....😱
Second is diet, our problem is processing carbs yet the establishment want us to eat more carbs, so cut (or reduce) things like bread, rice, pasta, potatoes etc.... In fact anything high in carbs, replacing them with green leafy vegetables.... Forget about the Low Fat thing, fat can be our friend, carbs are definitely not!!!! Many low fat foods have added carbs to make them palatable....
