Hi my name is Jackie. Diagnosed August 2014. Treated as a type 1 but health professionals are not sure. I attended a DAFNE course and it worked for me. I have U C and chronic pain . I retired just over 3 years ago due to health difficulties. ( new boss and all that). So glad I was forced into it

Hi Jackie, welcome to the forum 🙂 There can often be some confusion over where exactly you fall on the diabetes spectrum when you are diagnosed as an adult - the main thing for now is that you sound like you are getting appropriate treatment and education to help you manage your diabetes 🙂 How have things been going for you, and how did your diagnosis come about? What insulin are you using?

Please let us know if you have any questions or concerns 🙂 I look forward to hearing more from you 🙂

I began to feel ill. It was a very hot bank holiday weekend . I woke up each morning not feeling too bad but after by mid afternoon I was getting very ratty and felt I couldn’t settle. This carried on for a few days and then I found I had an uncontrollable thirst. Whilst I was drinking something I was thinking what I could drink next. Then it dawned on me. I worked in care and had the opportunity to take a urine test. Glucose was of the scale and it was showing ketones. During the weekend I was beginning to feel really poorly and quite scared. I bought a blood test from boots and it was reading something in the late 20s. I rang out of hours go and spoke to a lovely doctor. It was decided to keep me out of hospital and see my GP on Tuesday. So to shorten a long story had blood tests reading came back 108 ( old money) and showed a small amount of ketones. I was told because of my age and I had been recently on steroids that I was a type 2 and that would not change. While waiting for treatment the weight was falling off me and if you put down a drink near me I would have drunk it if you turned your back. I used to go bed and drink 2 nights of water and take another 2 pints up with me. I had good support from my nurse but I forget how it came about but I was referred to the specialist team who decided that I wasn’t a type 2 but not quite a type 1 I take novorapid and humbling. I have managed really well until recently and would like some advice on how to get it. Sorry I have gone on but this is my story. I will post my questions later. Thank you.

Welcome Jackie.
As others have said there is often confusion amongst HCPs with adults, usually assuming that it is T2 rather than T1. Glad that you now have specialist support.
