Relationship to Diabetes
Type 1
Hello!
I'm a Newbie! though I guess having had type 1 diabetes for over 52 years is hardly new to me!! I am totally fit and well and have never found diabetes has stopped me doing anything at all. Like many people, I have had issues but I have enjoyed being fitter and healthier than most of my colleagues. Life has changed considerably since my diagnosis - my grandfather and his sister both had diabetes and were one of the first on insulin. One of my sons and my nephew have diabetes...again, fit and well.

Hi and welcome.

Sounds like you have lots of experience and knowledge to bring to the forum as well as a positive outlook, so I hope to learn some tips from you.
What brings you to the forum after all this time?
Would you like to tell us how you currently manage your diabetes? ie. MDI or pump and which insulin(s). Do you have Freestyle Libre sensors on prescription? The current tech must make management a breeze compared to when you were first diagnosed, but then sometimes you can get bogged down with too much information. That is the thing with diabetes.... finding the balance, but it sounds like that is something that you have cracked.

Please make yourself at home and if you fancy a slightly more social aspect to forum usage, there are a group of us over on the "Group 7-day waking average" thread who log in each morning to share our waking readings and generally have a bit chat..... it is a bit like a virtual coffee morning. Would be happy to see you there if you are interested....

Many thanks!
I have had a Medtronic pump for the last 20 years and am on Novorapid.
Yes, now I have the Libre 2 on prescription.
Because I had Covid, I decided to see if there was anything to read on the forums here about it.
Today is my first day with a negative Covid test.
I had a positive on Sunday 20th February. Had a bad sore throat, sore head and felt generally uck. It lasted for 3 days maximum but it has taken this long to get a negative test.
I have had my pump on 125% for over a week but reduced it to 120% as I didn't want to go hypo. Today is the first day I have had the pump on normally and all is well so far.

Yee Ha! as they used to say in American Westerns (though like a lot of things I doubt whether they really did ...) Being ill with anything is just a complete PITA when we're not used to that, I wholeheartedly agree.

My husband and I both had it in December 2019, just before the first UK vaccines were delivered to the 80+ yo people - at our flippin hospital! (ie Coventry) We weren't really ill with it though, just a few days of feeling off and I didn't even need to bother changing my basal, just firefought with correction doses as and when - but that wasn't necessary at every mealtime, nothing regular about it whatsoever.

Welcome to the forum @Victoria19

What a wonderfully positive opening post!

We have a few members with a similarly long duration of diabetes as yourself, and some even longer. Plus a few relative newcomers like me with only 30 years on the clock :D

Did you get your DUK 50 year medal?
