At risk of diabetes
Hi everyone
I'm new to this just looking for help and advise. I had a recent blood test which shows I'm at moderate risk of developing Type 2 Diabetes.
I'm hoping with some lifestyle changes to prevent or delay this. Any advise would be greatly appreciated

Hi @Triciaoak and welcome to the forum.

I'm guessing you have had the results of an HbA1c with a result somewhere between 41 and 48. My best advice to you is not to panic and to take your time to read around the forum and the learning zone to get to understand what diabetes is all about. Come back and ask questions about things you do not understand and we will do our best to clear things up for you. Far better than lots of googling which is more likely than not to leave you very confused.

Thank you your right. I'll take a deep breath and stop googling as it is confusing.

The first thing to take in is that it is the amount of carbohydrate in the diet which is pushing up blood glucose levels.
Once that is dealt with, increasing the protein and fats in the diet to compensate, the danger of developing type 2 diabetes is much reduced.

Hey @Triciaoak, welcome to the forum. Hope you enjoy your time here and we're all here to help!

The initial diagnosis can be quite a shock, but take a breather and break it down. We can all attest to the sheer amount of information out there, but one step at a time. As some have said on this thread in prior messages, the learning zone can be amazing to help you get started and really help you hit the ground running.

When it comes to diet and lifestyle changes, beauty is truly in the balance. Being aware of where saturates, added sugars and the carbs are coming in and then looking to reduce them as much as possible.

We're here if you need us. Take care and all the best!
