Hello @Graham1968 . Welcome to the forum.

One of the main worries newbies to T2 diabetes have is, what on earth can I eat .
Their is a misconception that it is only about sugary things, when in reality it is all about carbohydrates esp the starchy ones, as these turn into glucose (sugar ) in our blood rapidly .
So if you can reduce them a little to start with and till you find suitable substitutes add more veg and protein to your diet
It is best not to reduce your blood glucose (BG) levels quickly as this can cause some unpleasant symptoms, so please ignore your instincts to cut them out or down drastically.

We are normally fine with protein and good fats however as you have heart failure I am not sure what dietary changes may if be needed, if you have been given advise on this then follow that.

Ask all the questions you need to ,we’ll do our best to help.
You
Your Hb1ac of 71 though high , many of us me included were much higher at diagnoses .

Welcome to the forum @Graham1968

I am glad that you have found us. Do fire away with any questions that arise in your reading around the forum. There is plenty of experience to tap into on here, and all questions are welcome.

Thank you just purchased it.

Welcome to the forum @Graham1968

Hope you find the book helpful in giving you a good grounding and understanding of T2. It is written in an accessible style, and though written by a US author, many many forum members have found it invaluable.

Another helpful source of information is the Diabetes UK Learning Zone (the highlighted item in the main menu) has lots of bite-sized modules that you can work through at your own pace.

And don’t forget that you can just ask questions, rant, wail and share your triumphs and disasters on the forum here - we are here to listen, to support and to encourage you 🙂
