Hi, I'm going to try to get an appointment this week. I had my eyes checked last week, my eyes have got a lot worse than they normally would, my optometrist wont give me a new prescription until I've got my sugar levels under control
If that was just an opticians appointment that is not what the eye check, it is done usally by the Retinal Screening Service for the area and photos taken of your retinas and then looked at by specialists.
If you look at the Diabetes UK main information there is a list of 15 checks you should have annually.

It was just a general eye test because my eyesight has got worse, he explained to me about the eye check and what happens, I had no idea that diabetes could affect your eyesight. I'm learning something new everyday

Hi JulieA73, welcome to the forum!

You're in good company here as most felt overwhelmed to begin with. It does sound like type 2 so worth clarifying things with your diabetic nurse just so you're clear as the info you may need differs.

Our main site has some really great info on managing diabetes that you may want to have a look at https://www.diabetes.org.uk/guide-to-diabetes/managing-your-diabetes. Once the type is confirmed you can have a look at more detailed info such as what foods to eat and managing things in general.

You can also give our helpline a call for any concerns that you may have 0345 123 2399, Monday to Friday, 9am to 6pm.

Thank you, I've always been a bit worried about posting on forums but I'm glad I've posted here, everyone that has replied has been very kind and given me some good advice. I wish I'd done this sooner
