Relationship to Diabetes
Type 2
Hi

I am a newbie, I was diagnosed a week before Christmas with Type 2 , thought I took in all the info when the doc spoke with me about but I am totally confused. I was supposed to have my 1st meeting with the dietician nurse this month and to see someone about my feet, but as we all know appointments have been cancelled due to Covid which is understandable. I know I need to lose weight and eat healthier but not sure what, its so confusing. On another note I have been having problems with my feet for the last 2 months as where they are sometimes on fire, feel warm to the touch and painful pins and needles in my toes, but over the last 2 weeks they are constantly feeling like they are numb with constant pins and needles, does anyone else have this problem and could it be related to diabetes?

thanks

You need to contact your Doctor to get your feet checked!

Thank you, i was supposed to have an appointment this month but they are only dealing with urgent medical needs! so will be 4-6 weeks before I can see anyone.

You need to tell them you have you are now experiencing numbness! It is more important you speak to your Doctor.

Hello @fuzzywuzzy y and welcome to the forum.
There is certainly a lot to take in when you are first diagnosed, and it certainly can be very confusing.

As @grovesy says, it is quite importance to get some help with diagnosing your feet problem. If you can't get an appointment with your doctor, then perhaps trying to contact the nurse you were due to see if you can get some attention. Other wise phoning 111 to ask how you can get some help may be an idea.

Regarding general things to do to help control your blood sugars, if you have a look around the website there is a lot of information and ideas

I would suggest starting by reading Maggie Davey's letter, which gives a lot of information on how this lady approached the problem.
It does all take time to find what’s right for you and adjust your lifestyle, but please be patient, it will be very worthwhile, and there is more information on useful-links-for-people-new-to-diabetes (scroll down to type 2.) and on the orange Learning Zone tab at the top of this page.

Welcome to the forum @fuzzywuzzy. Great name! :D

Diabetes definitely is a steep learning curve at the beginning. If you need help with anything there are no stupid questions here on this forum. I'm sure you're also aware, but the Diabetes UK website is a great resource for all sorts of information about diabetes.

I hope you're able to have your appointments soon.

Welcome to the forum @fuzzywuzzy

Sorry to hear about your diagnosis and how difficult Covid has made it, with difficulties getting access to appointments.

The feelings in your toes and legs could be related to your nerves. Have you made significant changes to your blood glucose management following your diagnosis? Sometimes rapid changes in overall BG levels can cause ’neuritis’ or treatment-induced diabetic neuropathy, a reversible form of nerve damage related to diabetes, which can cause pain and burning sensations in the legs and feet.

It certainly sounds like something you should mention to your GP

Ask away with any questions you have about diet and more BG-friendly swaps you might make.
