Relationship to Diabetes
At risk of diabetes
My name is Ergun. I was born in North London a long time ago (1964). I have worked in mainly office-based managerial positions but played sports until l was over 50. I was diagnosed with Achilles heel issues with a high risk of rapturing both of them. I required an op. I chose to go easy and stop playing sports. My weight shot up from 11 stone to almost 16 stone. With that my blood sugar level rose to pre-diabetes levels. I diet, undergo an operation, gain weight and diet again. This time l have decided to go Keto lifestyle and maintain it long term.

Hi Ergun and welcome to the forum. I feel your pain...I broke my ankle in 3 places last year and was non-weight bearing for 3 months resulting in a 2 stone weight gain. The fitness classes I'd previously attended were out of bounds for me and just when I thought it was safe to start again, lockdown happened! Then I was diagnosed with type 2, which ironically has probably saved my life as I needed something big to push me into changing the lifestyle I developed over the past year.

Thanks to the advice and support on this forum I've managed to lose the 2 stone and more besides, although I still have over 1.5 stones to go. I'm not following Keto specifically but I eat a low-carb, fairly high fat diet. I don't know if it will help with a keto diet, but the Food and Carbs section is really useful. Lots of fab eating ideas which have opened up a new eating world for me.

If you have any specific questions, this is the place for the answers...there are loads of lovely knowledgeable people here who will be only too happy to help and support you.

Look up ' lustig fat chance' on youTube, you could be overdosing on fructose.

Welcome to the forum @Ergun

We have a few members who use very low carbohydrate approaches to support their BG management

Welcome to the forum @Ergun , I am glad that you have found us.

I am sure that the low carvers in here will be along with advice and they can share the positive impact it has had on them. The important thing for all of us managing D is to find what works for you. It is never one size fits all, but finding what foods and portion sizes work for you, alongside the levels of exercise you are able to do is the key.

Any questions that you have just fire away.
