Hi, doctor has put me on Victoza & starting today - new to blood glucose testing too & had issues trying to get enough blood & had to squeeze the finger. Worried about side effects & hoping by doing bloods & injecting everyday it will get easier. Any advise would be great. Thanks

Hi!

Think we need a few more clues though, eg how long you've been T2 and what treatment you've been using and for how long, what prompted the addition of Victoza?

You need warm fingers to get blood out of them, so if yours usually aren't the simplest way to encourage it to flow is to wash your hands and it doesn't necessarily have to be hot water. Take care to dry them well and 'briskly'. You know the part of fingertip flesh that protrudes either side of each nail? Down the side/back of that bit is where to get the 'bodger' positioned for easier use for this purpose, stay away from the actual 'pads'.

If you can't wash and dry for whatever reason, arm down at side of you and shake that hand instead before bodging.

Welcome to the forum @holmwood113 . It would be good to know a little more about how you were managing your diabetes before the addition of the Victoria, and what specifically prompted this change.

As you are now testing it will be easier for you to monitor what is happening to your glucose levels day to day.
think the reports in the news and radio just confuse people as they so often talk about ‘sugar’ rather than carbohydrates. (I have a good shout at the radio every now and then!). As I am sure you know already it is every bit of carbohydrates that you eat that will be converted into glucose once inside you.

If you test before you eat and then about two hours after a meal, you can see the impact of the amount of carbs you have just eaten. If after two hours you are not back to where you were before the meal than you may need to reduce the carbs for that meal. This could be by doing a swap from high carb foods to lower ones, or by reducing portion sizes.

I hoeat helps and do come back with any further questions you have . There is plenty of help and support available on here.

Hi, I got diagnosed with T2 about 5 years ago & was around the 7 mark. I avoided taking drugs by controlling my eating but recently having gained weight & struggling to lose it my level went up to 10. Tried metforming which even on low dose got upset stomach & other side effects & because my kidneys are being impacted by being on BP for 30 yrs am limited on what can be prescribed. I hv been following a healthy low carb diet & lost a stone & managed to get levels to 8 but now struggling & so dr is hoping with victoza will help with my diet & get my levels to a healthy reading. For me I hv got to accept I am diabetic & need meds to help control it. Unfortunately like my BP I don’t feel I hv any symptoms or feel ill & the body doesn’t like taking meds.

Hope the addition of Victoria works well for you @holmwood113

Glad to hear you are moderating your carb intake - diabetes management is always a combination of individual metabolism/gut biome factors with food intake and meds.

Is there anything you can identify that may have caused the weight gain? Congratulations on losing a stone in weight - that’s brilliant! Does that take you back down to your normal weight or have you got further to go?
