Relationship to Diabetes
Type 2
Hi I am a newbie . I have had Type 2 diabetes since 2009 managed by tablets. I am going out for essentials and a daily walk. I have a routine which helps but the days are long.. Trying hard not to snack especially in the evenings which is difficult.

Hello & welcome to the forum. I hope you enjoy your daily walk, it can be very tempting to snack lately.

Hi @Didi64 🙂 The daily walk is one of my favourite parts of the day. Luckily - or unluckily - my snack stash has been diminished by difficulties in getting food shopping. I have children to keep me busy during the day, but have also been trying to use the time to catch up on all those little jobs that never get done in normal times.

Hello @Didi64. So good that you have joined us.
Yes these are difficult times for us all, but good to know that you have got a routine to give some structure to the day.
Looks like you have got many years of experience of living with diabetes. Do you manage to keep your blood sugars steady for most of the time? I'm sure the walking is a good help with this.

Keeping away from the 'not so good' snacks is often a problem, particularly in the evenings, when may be we can be a bit weary to distract by doing something else. I sometimes do some knitting then, as if my hands are busy with that, it is more difficult for them to be putting something into my mouth! Otherwise I try to make the snacks not too harmful, like a few nuts or olives, and try not to have any of the sugary stuff in the house if I can.

I hope you find the forum useful, if you have a browse around there are lots of different topics that may be of interest, that you can join in if you wish.

Hope you will keep posting and ask any questions you have or just let us know how it is going for you,

Thank you for your post it was really informative. I did have problems with my blood glucose levels 8 months ago but with a change to medication ,more exercise and better diet control I have got it down from 99 to 49 but still trying to get it even lower.

Hi @Didi64

Welcome @Didi64

You really have nailed things with an improvement like that.
Congratulations.

Keep in touch and keep asking questions.

Congratulations on your great A1c reduction @Didi64

I think your challenges with food and snacking in the current lockdown state is familiar to most of us.

Are you actually hungry in the evenings, of just looking for something to stop you feeling bored?
If the former, then perhaps you need to eat more, or have a dessert, if the latter - maybe some sort of craftwork or a jigsaw to divert you.

Hi not really hungry just seem to think about food in the evenings. Just received a new jigsaw puzzle so will give that a try . I am a beginner to jigsaw starting with larger sized pieces and completed my first one since childhood last week. A great accomplishment. Thank you for your suggestion much appreciated.
