Morning all
Six weeks ago I was diagnosed with type two with a count of 51 which wasn’t two bad as it was caught early
I had all the checks done, feet blood pressure, weight and now on Tuesday I have to have my eyes checked at the hospital.ive never been prodded about so much
So given the choice I started to loose weight to see if that would help.i have now lost one and a half stone and hope by April to loose another one to keep me off the tablets.
Until now I’ve not known much about type two but learning fast and I hope this forum will help
O by the way I’m 61 but feeling much fitter than I have for years

Morning Steve and welcome to the forum. Sounds like you are making an excellent start! What sort of adjustments have you made in your diet / exercise?

Hello @Steve75
Welcome to the forum.
Yes - all the checks can be a bit tedious, but it is one of the 'benefits!?' of diagnosis that you get extra checks and care.
Very well done on your weight loss, it is one of the very best things you can do for yourself.
There is a lot of help and information on the forum, and please keep posting and ask any questions.
If you haven't found it yet useful-links-for-people-new-to-diabetes has some useful links.

What sort of eating plan are you following?- It obviously works. It is good if it is something long term sustainable though, as you will need to keep up the changes you are making for the long term.
Best wishes for continuing good progress

Hi all
The best thing I’ve done is take my dog for a mile and half walk every day before breakfast as you can feel it burning energy at a speed of 22 min mile
Also a big problem was biscuits and cake so now I have a fixed breakfast and lunch and just make sure I don’t eat anything high in sugar and also avoid potatoes and pasta as much as possible

Hi @Steve75 Welcome to the forum, good to have you here, You certainly were given the works by your clinicians (I've been left to my own devises since last April!) But ive learned loads on here and its seeing me right. Its an interesting site with loads to offer. You sound like you have gripped the bull by the horns and got stuck in. Good for you and well done on the weight loss. It takes determination to accomplish those kinds of results. I expect your dog loves it too! One thing that you will see from this site is the mention that there is no 'one size fits all' remedy. The effects of certain foods on the body, like diabetes, is VERY individual and the only way to be really sure about whats best for you to eat is to do self testing with a home blood glucose monitor. for example, something like porridge is fine for one person but not another, causing 'spikes' in the BG levels. cutting out all obvious sugars (and hidden ones too, like ketchup, sauces etc). Be very selective about eating carbs, (rice, potatoes, bread and pasta, regardless of whether its brown or white) - you will have to start reading labels for total carb content of foods. Reducing portion sizes, upping vegetables and keeping fruit to a minimum are all things to consider. Do your research. ps - its not all diabetes on here.... we have a nice threads going on fun topics and silliness, hope to see you there. 🙂

Welcome to the forum @Steve75🙂 well done on your effort and your weight loss.

Welcome to the forum @Steve75 and well done on your weight loss. This is a great place to come for ideas, tips and advice and it sounds like your medical team are looking after you well so far too. The Learning Zone part of the DUK website is really useful too.

Hi Steve.
I am also new to the forum and was Diagnosed with diabetes the week ago. Like you I find it very daunting and there is a lot to learn.
You have come to the right place I have found this forum and the people on it very friendly and helpful.
Like you I have been given the opportunity to diet and help reduce my blood sugars. Mine was 83 which stressed me out no end. You have done very well to lose a stone and a half in six weeks. Give yourself a pat on the back for that.
We are all in the same boat here and striving for the same results. I feel inspired and hopeful for the future.
I too know little about type 2 diabetes and I have spent plenty of time researching and have found this form extremely useful.
Good luck Steve.
I will keep an eye out and watch your progress.
