Hi @Maxine1972 and welcome to the forum - hearing the news by text message is bang out of order in my opinion - sorry to hear you've been let down by your healthcare team - but you have done the right thing by joining here as there are decades of experience with people who can provide advice and support - did they advise what your HbA1c was on the text message (Grr makes me mad 😡) or if you need to go on any medication?

It is a pity you were not given some advise about diet when you were at the prediabetes stage as making some changes then could have helped. However what is past is past and you need to tackle the diagnosis now and that is very possible. I hope you haven't gone too far over the threshold of diagnosis of 47mmol/mol.
Many find a low carbohydrate approach successful at pulling things back to normal. This link is such an approach based on a suggested no more than 130g carbs per day, it is not NO carbs so is a very doable regime. https://lowcarbfreshwell.com/
There are some do's and don'ts as well as good explanation and some menu plans.
This should be suitable if you have been given the opportunity to make dietary changes or just prescribed metformin, hopefully the former for 3 months until your next HbA1C test.
Were you told your HbA1C result if not ask, as that will indicate how much work you will need to do. If not too high then some modest changes may be all that is needed.

Hi thank you for.all the above I just looked on NHS app in December my Hba1c was 46 now its 48 but that means nothing to me atm

48 is just about in the Diabetes Range so some subtle changes can help get it lower - You will get loads of help and tips from people here - glad you have joined us

OK that is not too bad, your 46mmol/mol was just under the diagnostic threshold anything over 47mmol/mol is a diabetes diagnosis so now you are just on that first rung of the ladder. The HbA1C test is basically an average of your blood glucose over the previous 3 months.
Making some dietary changes now should see you get it down pretty quickly. The suggestions in the link should enable you to do that without the need for medication at this point. A test in 3 months should tell you if your strategy is working.

That's encouraging i just hope it goes down not up as its took 6 months to raise from 46 to 48. But im sticking with pma now as you all know what you talking about

By reducing my carb intake, following the principals in the link I posted I reduced my HbA1C from 50 to 42 in 3 months and to below 40 in another 6 months where it remains nearly 4 years on by making the low carb regime my new normal way of eating.

Wow that's fantastic

Hi @Maxine1972 and a very warm welcome from me too 🙂. Wow what appalling support or rather lack of you received form your GP! You've found the right place for advise and support. Lots of friendly Type 2's here so please just ask away with any questions....

You are just over the threshold so really some quite modest changes to your diet are hopefully going to be sufficient and you can't go too wrong by concentrating on looking at the Freshwell program https://lowcarbfreshwell.com/ as it is all sensible advice that many have found successful.
Don't be too concerned that your appointment isn't until next week as compared to some waits that isn't too bad and there is plenty you can do in the meantime, I suspect they will not tell you much more than you can read here or in the links, but beware of Google as there are lots of cranky ideas. Your GP should organise foot check and retinal eye screening and another HbA1C in 3 months time.
