Relationship to Diabetes
Type 1
hello and my name is brooksy and have been a type 1 since 1999 and admittedly poorly controlled with other health issues

i am bloody useless and have not really taken diabetes seriously but over the last few years my body has had health issues and bs levels are not good

I’m sure you’re not useless. Type 1 is hard work and can be very wearing. It’s exhausting having to think about it all day, every day and having to plan normal things like going for a walk, etc.

We all understand. If you want suggestions to improve your blood sugar, we can give them, or you can just chat, moan, rant, laugh - whatever you want. Everyone here is friendly and supportive 🙂

It depends what the issues are, but you could either start a thread asking if others have the same issue, or, if you prefer, you can use the Search feature top right of this page. That will then bring up old threads mentioning the issue you searched for.

Diabetes U.K. also has some pages with basic information, eg this one about Charcot foot:

.

Welcome to the forum @brooksy

Sorry to read that you are experiencing other health issues, but pleased that you have found the forum and that you are looking to try to get things on track, which may well help you with other conditions too.

If you are happy to do so, it will help us if you can tell us what insulins you use. There have n
been many changes in your time of having diabetes, and I know that I have learnt of many from others on here.

Whatever questions arise, just ask. There is a wealth of experience to tap into on here with loads of practical experience. Nothing is considered silly on here.

Welcome to the forum @brooksy

Do ask away with any questions if there‘s something specific you want more information on. Someone around here may have personal experience to share, or may know good reliable sources of information and support.

There’s no such thing as a ‘silly question’ here, except the ones you didn’t ask 😛

Thanks for the message and currently I am on novorapid and tresiba.I am also on other medication for a variety of health issues. The pain in my back and hip is the real issue as pain and stress plays havoc with my b.s. which is constantly on the hi side and averages 15 plus. Not good is it

Pain does indeed play havoc with our levels.

Have you been taught how to make adjustments to your insulin to correct these, or to make changes to your basal insulin when there is a prolonged issue. Well worth a discussion with your DSN.

Yes i know how to correct doses but am not particularly well controlled and the education I have recieved from the professionals has been limited from day 1 and that was 23 years ago. I have had no education regarding carb control and have been medically banned from driving for nearly 10 years which isnt fun when self employed and you need to move your tools around from site to site. I have gastroparesis which can be a bloody nightmare especially when I burp as the smell can empty a room full of people and is highly embarassing. I have lost quite a few teeth and very nearly died 5 years ago because of septacaemia in the mouth. Back and hips causes issues which urgently needs to be rectified as struggle to climb stairs or walk up a slight incline. I have also discovered that there is an issue with narrowing of the aorta that requires a cardioangiogram to see the extent of damage and treatment that is required. Also suffering from depression because of all these problems and not getting the quality of life I would like. Sorry for the rant

And not forgetting countless admissions into hospital for DKA and probably a dozen or so in the last 6 years
