I'm 5'4", 72, a size 22, and would like to lose 6 stone (I've never managed it before in all the years of trying) but I did lose 11kg when I was first ill and most of it has stayed off.
I agree with your food strategy. I keep my occasional treat to my birthday, Xmas and Easter BHs At first I thought it would be hard to maintain but actually it isn't that difficult especially as so many people have different diets these days. I feel I am part of a trend.

I found that Metformin and Atorvastatin, which were prescribed at diagnosis made me very ill indeed - and I stopped them after 5 weeks, but the last of the physical effects did not go for around 18 months - the nagging ache in lower left leg, and the mental ones took a lot longer.
I went from full on, with Hba1c of 91 down to normal numbers in 6 months, so I did not need the tablets in the first place.
I have lost a lot of weight and now tend to wear adjustable waistline styles as I am at least 12 inches smaller around the middle, but it seems to vary a lot even day by day.
I find eating low carb very easy except when tempted, but am now, after 5 years, perfectly OK eating a one off higher carb item - I just don't do it very often, which for some people proves impossible but it must be my superpower.

Very well done to you. Can I ask what effect the medication had on you I’m taking zakkarto

Happy New Year and so well done on the weight loss so far. It is disappointing that you have not ben given the opportunity to try by lifestyle changes before the medication but at least you have been given the slow release metformin which is supposed to give less stomach issues.
Dietary changes are important so you may find this link helpful with some suggestions for that as well as some do's and don'ts. It is a low carb approach based on real food. https://lowcarbfreshwell.co.uk/
Following the principals in the link I reduced my HbA1C from 50mmol/mol to 42mmol/mol in 3 months without medication but using a home blood glucose monitor to test what meals were suitable.
Also the book or app Carbs and Cals was a useful resource for giving carb values of portion sizes of a whole range of foods.

I was taking ordinary Metformin and Atorvastatin. I suffered spasms and incontinence and memory problems plus aches and pains in my muscles and joints. It was so bad I considered suicide.
I believe what you are taking is metformin, under a different brand name and in a slow release form.

Oh poor you I’m so sorry you went through this I do hope your feeling much much better now.

Thank you for the information. And happy new year to you.

Yes medication was not what I wanted.
