Relationship to Diabetes
Type 2
Hi Everyone
I got diagnosed today with Type 2 diabetes. It was a little shock at first, however, I am remaining positive and had lost 1 stone in weight prior to my diagnosis. I am currently being monitored to control it by diet and exercise initially. I am reading g up on lots of info so any advice would be gratefully received. My figure was 55, which has been explained to me and my blood pressure is somewhat high fir the first time in my life.
It's a new chapter that's for sure.

Thanks for listening
Debs

Welcome to the forum @FuzzyFed

Sorry to hear about your diagnosis, but well done on your weight loss - was that something you’d been working towards for a while?

55mmol/mol is a little way over the diabetes threshold of 48mmol/mol, but some forum members have started considerably higher, and still made good progress towards non-diabetes numbers.

You might like to dip into the Learning Zone (orange tab in the main menu), which has loads of bite-sized modules you can work through gradually.

And keep firing away with any questions you have too!

Welcome to the forum
Your HbA1C is not desperately high and it is good you are being given the opportunity to make some dietary changes first, too many GPs reach for the prescription pad.
If you are thinking that a low carbohydrate approach may suit you then this link may help you with some ideas for dietary changes. https://lowcarbfreshwell.co.uk/. It is based on REAL food and many have found it successful in losing weight if you need to and reducing blood glucose.
