Type 2
Hi all

So my story is I have just been diagnosed as type 2 due to a very long ongoing condition with my pancreas.

I'm on Metformin 500g one a day but today my bloods were 10.3 when I woke up, 14.1 post breakfast, 11.2 pre lunch and 13.1 post lunch.

I started to feel weak and 'fuzzy' about an hour after lunch and decided to have a chocolate bar but I wasn't low.

Any advice would be great - I'm not sure whether to annoy the diabetic clinic !! Thanks!

Hi Welcome. Do you know what your BG (blood glucose) level was when you felt weak and fuzzy.
Metformin doesn't normally cause hypos and with those BG levels you are not hypo as they are high, however their is a such a thing as a false hypo where either a persons BGs come down too rapid or BGs are lower than your body has been used to as it's been running far too high for a while. I'm thinking your body may be complaining because it's been used to much higher BGs.
If I'm right and it's a false hypo then a little snack will help but not a bar of choc , trouble is though we always want what's bad for us, I could eat for England when I'm hypo 😱
If you don't mind me asking, how did you come to be diagnosed.

First of all, welcome to the forum.

When I was suffering from false hypos, I walked around with some dextrose tablets and sucked one or two when needed. Not ideal, but it helped me cope when I needed it. After a while I didn't need them any more.

As to your levels, they are quite high at the moment, but should come down with the metformin. The lunch readings sounded quite good in terms of the difference between the before and after readings. But, it depends on what you ate though!

Anyhow, I hope you find the forum helpful and feel free to ask any questions. There are loads of really helpful people here.

Andy 🙂

Welcome to the forum. Your levels are a bit at the moment, as expected, but your before & after differences are excellent, so you must be doing something right.🙂
