I almost never wash my hands before testing as my skin is very dry and doesn't take kindly to frequent washing. Also, a lot of the time I don't have access to washing facilities. Even when my hands are grubby from working out doors or in the stables with the horses, I just jab, wipe the first drop away and test the second drop. Works absolutely fine for me. The way I loolk at it, I cut myself on far worse things in dirty conditions working with the animals or on the land so I really have no concerns about infection from anything doing this and it seems to work well to get accurate readings without any contamination issues. I just wipe the first spot of blood off on the back of my other hand and then test the second drop..
