Relationship to Diabetes
Type 2
Hello. I'm new to the forum but handling Type 2 for the last 5 years. Just had really positive results come back after taking up intermittent fasting and changing my habits over the last year (lockdown has meant i can focus on eating and exercise), regarding triglycerides(from 7 to 2.27) and cholesterol (5.8 to 3.5), blood pressure down from last year (163/92 to 135/85) and now looking to ramp it up and learn more. It's a bit much when you get told by the doctors so i'm still getting my head round HbA1c, the use of statins/metformin etc.

I've joined the forum as i've experienced a lot of people weighing in with advice, the "do you know what you should do" from 50 different people all giving opposing pieces of advice.

Was in the process of writing an Edinburgh show (stand up comedian) before Covid cancelled all comedy events, and would like to continue to write informative material as the current conversation in the media suggests people diagnosed with diabetes deserve it due to the lifestyle they live, not going deeper.

Would be interested on any articles, books, case studies anybody would like to share.

You seem to have reported on everything but your diabetes numbers - how's that going?

Hi! I've not had my Hba1c come back yet, last checked a year ago was at 59. Would there be any other stats you would classify as "diabetes numbers"? Haven't really discussed it with anybody before.

You'll probably find quite a bit about using a glucose meter to test after eating, so we can adjust our carbs downwards seeking to revert to normal numbers.

Hello, & welcome to the forum. I hope you find it useful & if you have any more questions feel free to ask them.

Hello @JamieWTD welcome to the forum,🙂 great results. As @Drummer says having a test meter to check your blood sugars is the way to go, no test no know. Don`t forget we also like jokes? you`ll find a lot of jovial folks on the forum but the main aim is to keep you up to date with Diabetes which we call the big D.

Hope you enjoy the forum great to have you onboard.:D

Hello, I'm new too and most grateful for the help and support I have received so far.

Welcome to the forum. Very much looking forward to your contributions, we could all do with a laugh! What sort of things are you interested in with regard to articles / case studies etc?

Welcome to the forum @JamieWTD

Well done on your great progress so far. Great that you have found Intermittent Fasting so effective for you. Hope that your HbA1c shows a similar improvement to your cholesterol results.

One of the benefits of joining a forum can be exactly the ‘hive mind’ you suggest - where you are in contact with hundreds of people facing the same daily BG management juggling, all with wonky metabolisms of one sort or other and sharing their experiences, so that you get to hear about a broad range of approaches and strategies. Particularly where some ideas keep coming up from multiple people.

For a bit of background reading, many members over the years have valued Maggie Davey’s Letter to the Newly Diagnosed - much of which you may well already know.

Gretchen Becker’s book ‘Type 2 diabetes the first year’ is also highly recommended as as accessible and thorough source of information about T2 diabetes, written in an easy to read style.

Look forward to hearing more from you. Hope your writing goes well and that you can begin to perform again soon.

Welcome to the forum Jamiewtd , the members here are a really great bunch and always willing to help.
