Hi
I should have my T2D diagnosis today or tomorrow as my last Hbc1a was 50 two weeks ago. My fasting BS yesterday was 17mmol/L before the test. I have been having issues with my feet for nearly a year with an ingrowing toenail, foot infections, other infections that have taken 5 times longer than it should have taken a week but took 5 weeks. I have had issues with passing glucose in my urine in my teens. At the time I was underweight.

I am 47 years old and overweight but I find it hard to lose weight as I use a wheelchair most of the time because of issues with the hidden form of Spina Bifida which was confirmed just over 4 years. I also have Fibromyalgia and many allergies. I have lots of other conditions too. My brother had T2D before he had sleeve done in February 2012 and his diabetes has gone. I am trying to lose weight so that I can be referred to the surgeons about having surgery. Currently I haven't lost anything since last July. I am trying to lose weight before my next appointment on 19 September. I am hoping that I will be under 100 kilos which would leave me another 3 kilos to go,

Once I get the text or call i will let you know the results of my second Hbc1a test. I have another podiary appointment on 12 September.

Hello @AJ Cornick-Dingle , welcome to the forum.
Feel free to ask questions about diabetes, we’ll do our best to help. From what you have said it seems like they took their time in dx (diagnosing) Diabetes. With an Hb1ac it tips you just over the diabetic threshold of 48.
Hopefully once you get your BG (blood glucose) under better control you will find that you won’t get so many infections and if/when you do they will clear up more quickly , yes my left foot has got the T shirt.

Let us know how you get on

I have been having issues with BS for the last 10 years and have been pre-diabetic also for at least 10 years. I have an inherited
Family Combined Hyperlipidaemia which means I have issues with cholesterol and lipids and it hasn't improved being on medication for nearly 8 years. I regularly test as I have had hypo when my sugar drops below 4.4mmol/mol and i have seen it drop to 3.2mmol/mol as I feel horrible.

The only way I have ever been able to lose weight is eating low carbohydrate, rather than all the 'healthy' stuff touted as being part of a proper diet.
I have been concentrating on my blood glucose levels, since diagnosis, but am down three stone without even thinking about weightloss.

It has been confirmed that I have T2D, have made an appointment for tomorrow it is a locum GP. I would have like to see my own GP but at times it hard to see him.

Like @Drummer I struggled to lose weight on a low fat ‘healthy eating’ diet, but as soon as I switched to a low carb approach both my blood glucose and my weight dropped :D
