Hi everyone.
So the appointment with the diabetic nurse went well. She said no to a blood testing kit, (I bought one myself last week which I test morning lunchtime and nighttime) the numbers are high but I know they will come down. She talked about diet today and what to look for what to eat etc. She also talked about this page and said best page don’t look at others. She was a bit shocked that I’m on 1500 of medication metformin. Yet said keep taking them. My blood hubs is 78 (whatever that means) she said it’s rather high and it will come down. I had a little tear when talking about diet as I’m large woman. I’ve started exercise in December and I’m increasing the days, I’m determined to control this, she hadn’t received the results from the hospital so had to take my word for it. Again all your words are so comforting, a week in and I guess I’m still beating myself up for getting into this mess. Xxx

Aww, like I said earlier, do not beat yourself up over it. There is really no point in it, I have learnt this too. I am no Doctor but 1500mg Metformin is I think quite standard? I am also assuming the hubs refers to hba1c levels? Trust me, you can do this. Remember this will take time and not something you can expect to fix overnight 🙂. Start incorporating small changes if you need to with your exercise. I had an addiction to Coke so my first big change of lifestyle was to ditch fizzy drinks completely. My HBA1C level was 95! Its 33 now but that's how serious I was.

However do this, understand that we are all here for you, everyone here is willing to help but remember that everyone's body reacts differently to things so like I said, if you don't see changes in the short term do not despair. Keep going.

Small changes that you can sustain, don’t beat yourself up. I Am a sloth in regards to exercise but as I am off work just now, I try to walk to shops, weather permitting. Nurse and dietitian have stopped now trying to encourage me, but pleased when I report that I have done something.
Keep your chin up, and don’t blame yourself for previous lifestyle. It’s happened so you have to find the best way for you to deal with it, if that makes sense.

I lost 3 stone without trying - just getting my blood glucose down into the normal range did the trick.
I have also lost far more size than the weight would indicate - I am working out a bit, to try to maintain my fitness and muscle mass, and keep needing to take in the waist of my clothes.

Stop beating yourself up. It’s not your fault, it’s your genes. There are plenty of overweight folk who aren’t diabetic.

Well done for ignoring the nurse about testing, it’s the only way you can find out how your treatment and food, particularly carbs, affect you. For a few days, test in the morning when you wake, plus 1 hour before eating and two hours after eating. You’ll start to see patterns, then you can adjust your diet.

What sort of numbers are you getting?

And don’t worry, it takes a while to sort things out, but that won’t do any long term harm, you’re in this for the long haul. It’ll soon just be a way of life, rather than an ‘illness’.🙂

I’ve been getting anything from 12.5 to 9 yesterday however I reached 6,5 I was so happy. I’ve been ill with a cold and bad chest the last few days so I’ve been sleeping a lot and just lounging around the house. So when I done my bloods and seen 6.5 I thought. I’m going to do this. Even though it could be from being ill maybe. Still have me a smile. Lol. X

As mikeyB says, looking at the numbers is the key to getting sorted so my tip is to write them down in some sort of diary. You can see what is going on without having to rely on trying to remember what was happening a couple of weeks ago, and if you don't do numbers then somebody else can help if they are written down!
