It’s a whole day with a small group so that’s good. Things are explained in an easy to understand way
To be honest since diagnosed I’d read up lots, looked at Diabetes Uk site etc so knew much of what was covered. However I think it’s good in that you can confirm you’ve understood things (let’s face it there’s so many different views online etc)
I do understand the blood tests and more medical bits better now
Also everywhere you look Carbs are painted as evil and that’s not quite true, there’s good and bad and it’s more about how you use them etc
Another good thing is talking to other people on the course
Overall yes definitely worth going. Sorry you have to wait so long
Thanks Mark, I had been feeling quite positive about things, changing what I think needs to be changed, I’ve spoken to dn nurse where I work (in go surgery) and thought I could manage; however last few days have been really tearful which is not really like me and so fed up with it all just not knowing what to eat as I’m such a fussy eater. Hoping the course will help me in that regard but thinking I may contact gp to see if they will refer me to dietician earlier. I’m glad you found the course useful and will listen with interest as to what they say about carbs as that is what I’m struggling with the most. All the best to you.
Sorry to hear you’re struggling. I think we are all different but it is hard to get your head round
I’m not on any medication currently as my BS was only just into T2... but T2 all the same
I’m 6ft 1in and weighed about 12st 10 when diagnosed. My healthier diet made me drop to 11st 13 without trying. My problem is I don’t want to lose anymore. Some people say eat more protein and fat rather than carbs but that doesn’t work as my chlorestrol is really bad and I’m trying to decrease that too
Suggestion from the nurses yesterday was to go back to my DN and ask for referral to dietician
The one thing that came out of yesterday was don’t wait until your next scheduled checkup or in your case your Course
If it’s getting you down or worrying you ask for help or advice now
Speak to your nurse and perhaps ask to see a dietician
Thanks Mark, yes I’m definitely going to do that. I also don’t need to lose any weight and cholesterol higher than it should be. As you say we all have the same problem and have to deal with in the best way we can, good luck to you and thanks for the chat
