Hi Newbie on board, type 2 on steroids feeling poorly but not sure why, on humilin and sitagliptin, BG off monitor hi, Ketones? how do you know if you have ketones if you have no way to test? Very fruity mouth, abdo pain sharp, and peeing and drinking a lot, weight stable suffers with general fatigue due to other health issues. My nose smells like honey. Would appreciate your views, many thanks. Steroids taken last 5 days for asthma issues.

Medics said it's temporary due to steroids not to worry about it as no weight loss. I feel nit right in myself, I think I might try to buy over the counter Ketone strips if they di them tomorrow.
I'm not sure what to do, I really Don't want to attend A&E for this if I can help it.

Your levels should not be left off the scale and definitely not with no means of testing for ketones, especially when you are feeling unwell with a funny smell on your breath and abdominal pain. Go to hospital please and get checked out. I am not one for being over dramatic but this sort of thing could potentially be life threatening. At the very least call 111 but I would be happier if you got yourself to A&E tonight.... or should I say this morning.

Is there someone there with you who can take you to hospital? If you are on your own, then call 111 or 999. It might not be safe to drive yourself.

Pleased you are contacting 111 but remember, the dog and cats can be sorted out tomorrow. If you go into a coma with DKA (Diabetic KetoAcidosis) they will be no better off. You need to look after yourself first and foremost.

How are you feeling now? Any luck with 111? Hope you are getting some help....
Rebrascora, I'm kind of terrified of going to hospital after being treated wrongly by staff for different issue, couldn't get through to 111 very busy, so I'm going to wait it out until morning. Sorry to of caused worry or concern. I'm just going to have to wait til morning and then hopefully get a better read on myself, just took 12 night use units of insulin. I have to say I really haven't been told much about ketones or dka possibility...I'm sure they said type 2 don't get this, I could be wrong. Thank you again.
Also just started today a course of high dose vitamin D even though I've been on a low dose for years, this probably isn't helping.

You are right that Type 2s don't normally get ketones or risk of DKA but there are occasional cases of it happening but there is also a possibility that you might not necessarily be Type 2. Many of us were misdiagnosed with Type 2 initially and then discovered to be Type 1 which is why I am always open to things not being quite as straight forward as doctors may think. Can you send a text message to anyone to check up on you in the morning. The fruity taste in your mouth and abdominal pain together with prolonged "high" off the scale BG is really worrying me. If you can't think of anyone I will private message you my mobile number and if you text me now tonight I will text back in the morning. If nothing else it will give me peace of mind. Private messages will show up in the box at the top RHS of your screen where the envelope is.

Hi Barbara, yes I'm doing okay still high with 25.7 but getting some strips to check just in case. If not for now for next time as those steroids are killing my sugars. Thank you so much. Be kind to yourselves today peeps, it's warming up drink plenty to hydrate. Thank you x
