Hi Lesley
On the GP front, you could try telling them you’re diabetic and have severe foot pain (I assume it’s pretty severe, I’m not telling you to say it is if the pain isn’t severe just to clarify). They should have a red foot protocol in place that fast tracks your appointment if memory serves me correctly. Self help wise the plantar fascia socks are available from boots, they are pretty expensive though but they really help me, they support your arch whilst walking and stop the over extension of the ligament which helps the inflammation to subside. Also lots of people find rolling a tennis ball underneath their arch (ball on the floor foot on top) helps to stretch it out. Hurts like nobodies business but lots of people find it helps, personally I didn’t find it very helpful, but I might be different because of my super elastic tendons. The other thing is people tend to gravitate to soft shoes or trainers because they’re in pain and the foot specialist told me to do the opposite because the softer the shoe the more it allows the foot to overextend which is the trigger, he told me to go for a comfortable shoe that’s supportive and not super flat, so has a definite heel section of around 1.5 inches. Sorry you’re struggling with all this and hopefully you’ll get some relief soon, but I’d make that appointment now even if it’s for a few weeks time because sadly in my experience if it’s lasted for 6 months already it’s likely to need a bit more intervention. Sorry to keep harping on about doctors, I’m only stressing that because feet are such a tricky area with diabetes and I wouldn’t want you to do any accidental damage if it’s something else. Hope you feel better soon 🙂
