Relationship to Diabetes
Type 1.5 LADA
Hi there - I’m Lucy and have an very much an amateur in the forum world, so thank you for having me and hope to learn a lot from the discussions here

Hi @Ladalucy and welcome to the forum.
I'm a T2 but I expect there will be some T1's and LADA's along soon.

Hi Lucy. I was diagnosed last month and there is still some debating about whether it T1 or T2. Anyway, I've found the forum here very helpful. Welcome to the club!

Welcome to the forum @Ladalucy

We have a number of people living with LADA on the forum, along with many others diagnosed with T1 in later life.

What treatment are you currently on?

How long have you been diagnosed?

Is there anything in particular with your diabetes at the moment that is concerning you, or which prompted you to connect with others on the forum?

What is a LADA please

Apart from a car

LADA - Latent Autoimmune Diabetes of Adults. Sometimes called T1.5
Thankyou, never heard of it called that but can it be when you get diagnosed T2 and are diet and tablet controlled then they find you might need insulin at a later date

Not quite as it is an auto immune condition whereas Type 2 is not, but Type 2 do sometimes need insulin as oral meds and diet don't work well enough.

Of course there will be some people who are actually LADA who are initially diagnosed Type 2 and eventually go on to insulin who never get tested and correctly diagnosed or even know that LADA exists.... they just accept what their doctor tells them and use the insulin and continue with the Type 2 label. Yes there are genuine Type 2's who need insulin but I often wonder how many insulin dependent Type 2s might actually be LADA if they were tested.

My auntie was T2 but had insulin resistance, not sure if this LADA was a thing then

Insulin resistance is pretty normal with Type 2 diabetes....or did you mean to day that your auntie was Type 1 but also had insulin resistance? So potentially suffering Type 2 on top of Type 1 maybe due to increased weight or inactivity. I think some consultants refer to that as Type 1.5 but not LADA whereas some refer to LADA as Type 1.5. Other than LADA being a slow onset autoimmune diabetes whereas if you are diagnosed with Type 1 at a younger age and then developing insulin resistance in later life, there is no clear definition of Type 1.5 as such I believe, but I stand to be corrected.

Hey @Ladalucy , welcome to the forum and know that your feelings are valid and we are all here to help you! 🙂🙂
