Relationship to Diabetes
At risk of diabetes
Hi
I wanted to ask if anyone else who has had pancreatitis, liver and kidney infections, and gall bladder removed all at the same time, have you then gone on to become pre-diabetic. Also, my appetite is non-existent, I have cereals for bfast, and Ia try and eat a bit of evening dinner, but it's a tiny portion, my friends 1 yr old, eats more than I do. I am slowly losing weight, which is a good thing. But not being able to eat, makes it difficult to get all the nutrients I'm sure. my blood is ok. My cholesterol has gone into abnormal and I'm now on statins.
Has anyone else had a similar thing happen to them? I'm now pre-diabetic, but i wonder could it really be type 3c diabetes because of my issues 14 months ago. I have cut sugar out of my diet and replaced it with sukrin gold. Im still trying to drink more than 2 or 3 litres of fluids a day. I hardly eat bread. I live on cereals and low sugar fruit. I'm quite worried about pre-diabetes, cos apart from losing weight, I can't see what else I can do. Due to other illnesses and severe back issues, exercise and walking are not possible. But i keep active as much as they allow.

Do you need to drink all that fluid - is there a reason for it?
Of course you want to avoid dehydration, but month after month of high water consumption can resulting its own problems - when I was at Polytechnic a girl was hospitalised after drinking instead of eating as she was terrified of gaining weight - it was a form of anorexia, I think, and equally as damaging as the more common sorts.
Cereal and fruit is seriously lacking in the nutrients you need to live well - protein and fat.
Starch and sugar are not really good food choices.
Do take a good multivitamin and mineral tablet each day, as too much water can lead to a loss of electrolytes,

Yes the gp told me to drink that much to flush my liver n kidneys, due to the meds I'm on for other issues. I was told to eat high fibre in the morning so I am. I eat freshly cooked food at night, its just not a lot. I've been told to eat little and often, instead of 3 meals. So I have fruit and yoghurt. I dont see how that's bad. I prefer vegs to meat.

If you are unable to cope with the starch and sugar then cereal and fruit isn't a good choice.
If you need fibre, then eat fibre - but many people unable to deal with carbohydrate, avoid high carbohydrate foods and see normal numbers.

Where did I say I cant cope with starch? Starchcis what you spray on clothes to stiffen them!

Welcome to the forum @Blondie-3862

Sorry to hear of the difficulties you are having and you are clearly juggling a number of things at the same time, which makes things more difficult.

We each manage our Diabetes in different ways and it is a case of finding what works for you. Whatever you are eating if you use the information on the packets to work out the amount of carbohydrates you are eating and then try to make swaps and/or reduce the portion sizes to reduce these. However you have already said that you are eating tiny portions, so that may be difficult.

Have you been offered a chance to talk to a nutritionist. It sounds like you have a complex situation to manage and they may be able to help you juggle the different conditions. By eating through the day this lifts your glucose levels each time so that it is difficult to get them down in between. Would it be possible to switch any of the carbs you are eating (and that is not just sugars) to protein which would reduce the glucose, but add in other nutrition.

There are people on here who have Type 3c and they will be more familiar with the early stages of this and the impact that that can have. I will flag this for @eggyg who is very knowledgable.

Keep in touch and let us know how you get on.

Some refer to carbohydrates in food as starch - some of us are old enough to remember when carbohydrates did not exist, there were only starches!
