Hi everyone, I was told yesterday I am pre diabetes. Bit of a shock, I have rheumatoid arthritis and an under active thyroid as well. I should have realised something was wrong as I was not quite craving but drinking a lot of Pepsi (not diet) to get me through my working day, and feeling pretty rubbish. Lots of energy slumps hence the Pepsi. Also I have been trying a vegan diet eating shed loads of potatoes and veg, I have been doing everything wrong so far, so here I am trying to turn it all around.

Welcome Pixie,

I'm glad to see that you have noticed that there is something wrong in your diet...... Couple of things, I'd replace the starchy vegetables with leafy vegetables (underground bad, aboveground good).... Also Sodas are bad.... even the diet ones, sorry.
A couple of small changes should see your BG levels improve & a decrease in the lethargy.

Hi pixie, welcome to the forum 🙂 Hopefully, addressing the diet will help improve things considerably for you. Carbohydrates are the chief things you need to be concerned about, and we can have quite individual tolerances for these. I would suggest looking into the GL (Glycaemic Load) approach to selecting and combining foods so that they have a slow, steady impact on blood glucose levels - The GL Diet for Dummies is a very good introduction 🙂 It can be useful to start a food diary and write down the amount of carbs, in grams, in everything you eat and drink, and then review this after a couple of weeks to look for areas where things might be improved by reducing or replacing carbs with more blood glucose-friendly items 🙂

Please let us know if you have any questions and we will be very happy to help! 🙂
