Relationship to Diabetes
At risk of diabetes
Thank you for letting me join I’m hoping I can get lots of information from everyone.
Had my bloods done at the weekend and the result came back as 44 the receptionist said normal range is 20-41 ,
what could I do to help get the results down? Would i need to do it by diet xx
 
Hi @Cat lover and welcome to the forum.
You are only just into the 'at risk' range so you don't need to do anything drastic to get your levels down back into the normal range.
All starches and sugars you eat digest into glucose and help to fuel the body. Any excess glucose is usually stored as body fat or in large excess may be peed out in the urine.
Starches include grains (even whole grains) and starchy veg such as potato, carrot, parsnip etc.

Most people don't realise how bad a typical 'healthy' breakfast is for a Type 2 diabetic. I used to eat whole oat porridge, banana, fruit juice for breakfast every day because I was told it would be good for my heart. Well it wasn't and it also helped give me diabetes because it was every item was high in starch or in sugar. After diagnosis I started eating an actually healthy breakfast for a Type 2 diabetic - eggs with no toast, water or black tea with no sugar. I tested the difference with a Blood Glucose meter - it was huge.
 
Hi Cat lover, welcome to the forum.

Glad to have you here at an early stage as you're in a good position to avoid getting into the diabetic range. It's basically about reducing sugars and carbs including the hidden ones which often are included in things that we think are healthy.

Might be worth keeping a log of what you eat for a week and see if there are any ways you can reduce the carbs in your week.
