Hi everyone. My husband has newly been diagnosed with type2. His Hba1c is 120(I know) . It all comes down to a horrendous year of poor eating, extreme stress at work and tonnes of sugary drinks against my advice. He is overweight as well.I am in medical field and I urged him to test after suspecting. He is started on 2 drugs( met and gliclazide and diet controlled as well. Due to childhood traumas my husband is needle phobic and having to poke twice everyday is a struggle. Both of us are in tears every time we have to do it.I am quite determined to get things under control with diet , weight loss and medication.just looking for some success stories and motivation I suppose.

Hello @SRath and welcome to our forum to you and your husband.
I fully understand what a difficult time this will be for your husband, and for you as well.

There are many of us on the forum that have faced similar situations, and the shock of diagnosis. If you read through some of the threads I am sure that you will find many inspirational stories of success, all be it with ups and downs along the way.

You sound as if you are well aware of the three main pillars of diet, increased exercise and medication that will help towards a good solution.
If there are particular aspects that you would like to ask about, then please let us know.
There are some useful links on https://forum.diabetes.org.uk/boards/threads/useful-links-for-people-new-to-diabetes.10406/
and also on the Learning Zone tab at the top of this page.

Best wishes and please keep reading and posting - we are all here to try and help each other.

Starting so high you need to drop the levels slowly so as to avoid possible problems - I just dove into low carb as I got no advice at all other than take the tablets, but I was lucky.
As you obviously know where the sugar came from, it ought to be easy enough to reduce step by step, but it is a pity about the problem with testing - still, low carb works whether you know about it or not.

Buy your husband a Roche Fastclix 'finger bodger' - all lancets contained within a drum so you can't see or come into contact with anything remotely sharp, put the cover back on over the drum, press the little circular thingy on the cover against chosen digit and press button to release trigger. Always follow the advice here

Welcome to the forum @SRath

I wish you and your husband every success in your efforts to gradually improve your husband’s BG levels.

I am sure he will begin to feel much better in himself with BG levels nearer the normal range.
