Relationship to Diabetes
Type 1
Hi all,
I was diagnosed type 1 insulin dependent towards the end of last year (2014) following a course of chemo' when 2 of the drugs damaged the pancreas. But, hey ho I received excellent support from the hospital, on initial admission, and with subsequent clinics. There's also no problem in getting all my testing kits freely prescribed.
Not letting diabetes rule my life I'm walking a 1/2 marathon (20k), on 17th June raising funds or this site for Diabetes UK.
I know it's only been 5 months but I'm looking forward to continuing to enjoy my retirement and diabetes will just be a part of it.

Hi patchworks101, welcome to the forum 🙂 Sounds like you have a good, positive attitude to your diabetes, and it's great to hear you have had good support. What insulin regime are you on? Good luck with the half marathon in June - I'm doing one if 5 weeks 😱

Please let us know if there is anything we can do to help, or if you have any questions 🙂

Hi Patchworks
Glad you're feeling positive, welcome aboard 🙂

Welcome patchworks101.

Where is you half marathon? How's your training going?

In case you don't already know, there are a couple of websites which are helpful for people with type 1 diabetes who do sport:
