Relationship to Diabetes
Type 2
Hiya. My name is Sue and I'm in South Tyneside. I was diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes a few years ago.

Hi @buggerlugs and welcome to the forum.
Did you join to give advice on how to reverse T2D, or are you looking for tips, or perhaps just for support?
If you tell us how you are managing your Blood Glucose, we may be able to relate our own experiences.

Thanks for the welcome. I was looking for any info on taking Letrozole with diabetes. I don't take medication for my diabetes yet, but may have to as my blood sugar has gone high and this has happened since I started taking the Letrozole. Stopping that is not an option as it's to help my breast cancer from returning.

Sorry to hear this. Stress, illness and certain medications can increase Blood Glucose. Though I don't see that being listed as a side effect for Letrozole, however the other side effects may cause you stress as well as the whole situation.
How high has your BG risen, and from what level?
Are you already low carbing/keto? If so then you may be correct that diet alone isn't enough to keep your BG low during this time.

I've just taken my BG and it's 16. something, way, way too high. My husband did his, and it was 7. something, we eat the same thing.

I assume you husband is not diabetic so it would be normal for his blood glucose to be down at 7 ish 2 hours post meal whereas if diabetic and your carb intake is too much for the body to tolerate then it could well be much higher. Of course unless you tested before your meal you are not going to differentiate from it being high and the effect of your meal.
Can I ask what did you have?
With blood glucose level as high as that I think it would be wise to contact your diabetic team for advice.

Welcome to the forum @buggerlugs

I hadn’t heard of Letrozole so had to look it up.

It doesn’t appear that blood glucose disruption is recognised as a common side effect, though as others have said, any illness or injury can cause quite a bit of BG chaos.

Macmillan has a page which lists a few hormone meds that can impact blood glucose levels, which might be helpful to check against:

As @Leadinglights says, it sounds like you shoukd speak to your Dr about your raised BG levels and your concerns.

Thank you. I know it's not listed as a side effect, but there are articles that say it does interfere with BG.

My husband is diabetic and eats the same as me. I took it this morning when I got up and it was 11.7, then 3 hours after my breakfast and it was the same, my hubbys was 5.5. I had lunch, and when I took it, it was 9.3. I am going to speak to my doctor on Monday as the nurse recommended for me to start medication.
