Relationship to Diabetes

Hello friends

Sorry to keep posting with new queries.

i’m 19 days in as a newbie (59 year old) type 1 (or perhaps LADA) diabetic.

I have really, really, cold toes/feet today, since 0700hrs and it’s now nearly 1600hrs.

Is this a “thing” I should expect please?

BG so far today :-

am : 10.0
Pre-lunch : 5.8

Thank you

jan x

No need to apologise for asking questions @Calf00. That’s what the forum is here for.

I am not aware of cold feet being associated with Diabetes, unless you have neuropathy (apologies if you have already told us that and I have forgotten).

When is your next review with your DSN?
You may find that they will continue to increase your basal insulin (background) to address the slightly higher morning reading, but good to see the pre lunch level.

Keep asking and keep in touch.
Happy to help

I suffered this for weeks after my diagnosis, until I began getting my blood sugar levels under better control. In fact, I was generally very cold, despite being diagnosed at the end of May during what turned out to be quite a hot summer. I think your body goes through quite a process of shocks to the system, so these early weeks are a time when things come back into balance again. I remember that my feet were like blocks of ice when I was in hospital after diagnosis. Things did improve eventually though, but if you are worried, please do let your healthcare team know 🙂

I sometimes have cold feet, but I don’t think it’s specifically diabetes related - my Dad’s always had cold feet so I guess I got them from him!

Thank you v much SB2015, Northerner and Mike

I feel the cold a lot more than I used to not sure if it the diabetes or an 8 stone weight loss

Hello @Calf00 a bit more info please, sorry if you`ve supplied it in another post but can you supply your diagnosis HbA1c if you know it and your present Blood Sugar Level`s (BSL`s). Its crucial your daily BSL`s are kept under control but to reduce them if you as I suspect reduce them too quickly this can lead to the problem you have. It normally goes away without too much hassle but it is worth mentioning to your Dr or DSN, always wear socks and if your feet become worse at night wear bed socks even an extra blanket on your lower legs/feet. This is not an uncommon situation being 19 day`s in its still early days, stay close to your DSN (Diabetic Specialist Nurse) I`m sure it will sort itself out eventually bare with it for a few weeks but keep your feet always covered and don`t walk around with no shoes on, stay safe.
